Hugely in favor of this. Specifically what makes something a twitter afaict is that each utterance is a standalone object that can be amplified & quoted. So anything where comments/replies are stuck to top-level posts is not a twitter.

okay wait. hold the phone. if twitter is determined to be called X now, and there are all these very similar sites cropping up, can we just refer to any microblogging text-based social media platform generically as "a twitter"? as in, "I posted that update on three twitters last night"

also this is in some importance sense a definition of a "tweet". A twitter is an app that has/emphasizes tweets. By this take, bluesky is slightly more of a twitter atm than twitter.com is, because the latter allows super long posts, which don't compose like tweets do.

I seriously think it would be correct to call them tweets unless you legally can't (and I would question whether that lawsuit would even fly) that's what they ARE. a tweet is a type of thing this app has them twitter invented them, but I don't think tweets count as a branded product like "MacBook"

This is the way because it actually contributes to the decorporitization of language and turns "tweet" into a genericized word, which is an intrinsic linguistic good

This post is unavailable.

so now that twitter is calling itself "X" and its utterances "posts" & "reposts"...... ............can we use "tweet" & "retweet" here? (real question. probably they could still sue, but how hard would it be to prod Elon into insisting those words are stupid and giving others permission...? ๐Ÿค”)

just created a bsky for my app, which has a new name/domain as of today too celebrated by re-posting this manifesto (that I actually drafted in gdocs but the cadence was already perfect for a thread)

most people don't know this but the biblical flood actually happened because everyone let their feelings out all at once and all the tears drowned the world

the best same page is the one you're already on rather than trying to "get on the same page", focus on mutually recognizing the ways in which you're not on the same page

singular "they" has existed for a long time but (at least in my dialect) was canonically only used for people whose names/identifies don't matter for the conversation โœ… "I asked cashier, they said X" โŒ "I asked Alicia, they said X" the 2nd one would make my grandparents go "what? they who?"

sometimes the blind people touching the elephant are at each others' throats sometimes a sighted person comes along & laughs & explains what's going on sometimes the sighted person assumes that just because they see the WHOLE elephant at once, THEY can see the elephant FULLY ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜

it's hard to be fully expressive around other people because unless you've built up a lot of trust, fully vocalizing your frustration will produce an excess of concern from them that'll be difficult to dispel

most communication problems amount to being unable to reliably say AND mean AND have received/trusted: 1. "I need something" 2. "I'm fine (and I'd let you know if I needed something)" [something], eg: โ€ƒspace โ€ƒhelp โ€ƒto pee/drink/eat โ€ƒto slow down โ€ƒto understand โ€ƒto be understood

Probably my favourite midjourney creation so far... "We don't actually experience the world โ€” rather, we filter reality through the state of our nervous system."

it's only possible to be rational within a frame = without a frame, it's impossible to be rational (exoteric meaning ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค“) = within a frame, it's *only* possible to be rational (esoteric meaning ๐Ÿคซ๐Ÿคฏ)

In my experience, people trying to wake each other up directly, whatever that means, and no matter how spiritually wise they feel in that moment, tend to be doing it in part out of discomfort with being with the "asleep" person. I've been on both sides of this countless times.
