This lawsuit was doomed regardless, but the state of Alaska coming out against it is important because there will be tremendous pressure from the administration on Governor Mike Dunleavy not to certify a Peltola win.

Adam Klasfeld@klasfeldreports.com

Alaska authorities strongly oppose the Trump DOJ’s attempted “interference” in the election. This is significant because there were concerns the state—which sought to DQ the second Sullivan—would take the same side. But it didn’t. Quite the contrary. buff.ly/EJHtDpX

Sure thing, boys, that'll turn around these midterms.

Reuters: US JUSTICE DEPARTMENT CHARGES FORMER FBI DIRECTOR JAMES COMEY WITH TRANSMITTING NATIONAL DEFENSE INFORMATION IN 2016 -COURT DOCUMENT

In some ways we are very lucky that the mad king wastes so much of his time on personal vanity projects like building the ballroom and getting back at James Comey, as opposed to other, more permanent damage he could be doing.

Truly remarkable that after 11+ years of this, Bill Maher - a professional TV host and comedian - didn't understand that Trump was just humiliating him.

LateNighter@latenightercom.bsky.social

Donald Trump lashed out at Bill Maher in a record-length Truth Social post Sunday, calling their latest White House dinner a “waste of time” and telling the *Real Time* host, “Don’t call anymore.”

Wildwood absolutely lives up to the hype. It took 16 years to make and you can see it in every frame. It deserves a best picture nomination.

It's hard for most people to wrap their minds around, but 90% of child sexual abuse victims are abused by someone they know, and the mothers very, very often side with the abusive boyfriend/husband.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

Hedy Lamarr, one of the most famous actresses in the world in the 1940s, invented a radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes that could defeat radio jamming by the Germans, the technology from which became an early precursor to WiFi.

Michael Massee was expressly told not to point the gun directly at Brandon Lee on the set of the Crow. He did it anyway because his character, Funboy, was a junkie, and he thought it would look more real if he waved the gun around.

There's an urban legend that Michael Cimino blew up a horse while filming Heaven's Gate, and if you read Final Cut, the book about the making of that movie written by the head of production at United Artists at the time, he does not deny that it happened.

Scammers like Elizabeth Holmes are not deep, or nuanced, or complicated. They're just greedy narcissists, and this country's absolutely bottomless fascination with them is a big part of why are where we are.

I need to be clear: I have not seen YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING. But I would caution people against thinking that liars are secretly deep or misunderstood, or that there is something to be gained from the experience of being lied to. Money, sex, power; everything boils down to very simple motivations.

Elizabeth Holmes is only interesting to the degree that it's interesting that some people will lie to get what they want. This is one of the oldest known human truths. It's sad, but it's also sadly common. People make choices. Choices have consequences. Most inmates don't get an A24 movie.

The Majority Report crew's entire rationale for supporting Graham Platner was that it was important to be a big tent party and win converts. You can't say that while also insisting that Tim Miller working on Jeb Bush's campaign 10 years ago is disqualifying.

Really frustrated by @majorityreport.bsky.social's Bulwark Derangement Syndrome. Miller's interview with Angie Nixon was friendly! The whole point is to introduce her to the Bulwark audience. It's literally a permission structure for normie libs to vote for Nixon.

States that use lethal injection defend it in court by saying that the firing squad is not a viable alternative under Baze v. Rees, so the U.S. Army livestreaming an execution by firing squad would completely undermine that defense.

This article doesn't really describe a "scheme" as much as it just says "who's gonna stop him?"

Virtually every single South American country (except good old Uruguay) has lurched hard to the right in the last few years. Venezuela we can say was U.S. hard power interference, but Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil... they all just chose this.

the brazil thing is so depressing because they did the right thing, man they did what we couldn’t, they actually prosecuted their coup and threw bolsonaro’s ass in jail and generally showed the united states what a functional state looks like and now they are gonna elect his dipshit son? really?

Imagine being a professional journalist, getting an answer from Justice Alito like this, and just accepting it. These words don't mean anything! It's like he was asked about Roe v. Wade and responded, "A setback of the heart bathes in sunlight" or "The body of mind sees the mountain top."

Marty Lederman@martylederman.bsky.social

Samuel Alito: We won't overturn Obergefell because it's engendered reliance interests. Jan Crawford: Well, many people had organized their lives around Roe v. Wade. Alito: No, they didn't. Women merely had an "abstract" interest in "ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in."

Me and my friends can't wait for the Skydance merger. We're all excited to Paramount Plus And Chill with our friends. I lost my virginity to episode 8 of Dutton Ranch. The only thing keeping me alive is the prospect of a season 4 of Colin From Accounts.

If, under Tucker's argument - it was wrong for Britain to enter WW2 because they were a weaker country after the war than they were before it started - then it was an even worse idea for Germany to have started WW2. And yet, somehow, he never criticizes Germany for doing that.

The Tennessee Holler @thetnholler.bsky.social

Tucker: “I never understood why 🇬🇧 fought World War 2?” 😕 Rees-Mogg: “It was good vs. evil…We did the right thing…” Tucker: “Has 🇬🇧 benefitted?” RM: “We defeated Hitler… We’d all be speaking German…” Tucker: “Who cares?” 🤔

If rational self-interest is the only rubric, then it was utterly insane for Germany for fight WW2, which led to far worse consequences for them than it did for Britain. If you're just anti-war, isn't that where you'd put your focus? Unless, like Tucker, your point is that Germany should have won.

Both things are true: Andrew Boutros set Sheri Mecklenburg up to fail by ordering her to bring charges he knew the law did not support, and she committed egregious misconduct before the grand jury. No good guys here except the grand jurors who said no.

Incredibly disappointing ad from Mary Peltola (D-AK) saying she neither supports "kids getting surgeries to change genders or men in girls bathrooms." Yes, flipping the Senate is essential and can stop bad laws and bad judges from happening, but she can do it without my support from the lower 48.

Heard Zach Cregger's Resident Evil described as "horror After Hours" and while that is perfect, I kinda thought Scorcese's After Hours was already a horror movie.

Destiny was 1000% in support of Kyle Rittenhouse bringing an AR-15 to a protest in Kenosha and shooting three people, and strawmanned any criticism of Rittenhouse as a belief that he had a moral obligation to submit himself to mob justice.

Vibecession Forever@ghazelleberner.bsky.social

First, Destiny was one of the originators of offensive "gamer" comments. He was banned from Twitch several times for things like using slurs and glorifying anti-protestor violence in 2020 (you read that right). In 2022, he was permabanned from Twitch for unknown reasons. Most likely, transphobia.

Right, you cannot define genocide by mathematical equations, which is why absolutely no organization that defines the term does so. A genocide of just 1% of China's population would be 14 million people, more than were killed in the Holocaust.
