Part of being able to "survive" comfortably for me has been based on luck. Another part has been choosing stocks in the last month. I've "made" $60k in the last month on my 401k. Like what the F is that? It doesn't seem real. I keep telling my partner we are benefiting from this ridiculous increase

I mean, how much is really enough to "beat" the capitalism system when you get old? We are so F'd. I follow Alzheimers, stroke groups and the system is setup to take all of these "gains" away from us before we die. By the people who have way more power than me.

There is an intrinsic nature to capitalism that "screws your neighbor" in order to get ahead. I am in a position to somewhat benefit from it, but hate the fucking "screw your neighbor" feel that it has to it. I can only imagine those that have more than me or have no problem with this system.

To them, I and everyone else must seem like ants. This system sucks. I hate systems based on taking advantage of those less fortunate. Systems based on playing the game of "Screw your neighbor" best. We really just got lucky. And now we have to keep playing the game to survive. F Capitalism.

in the market because we are older and happen to have a base to throw some $ at certain stocks. Like, it isn't really fair for the generations behind us that do not have money to invest when they are just trying to survive day to day. And that is what is wrong with this capitalism structure.

Had a colonoscopy today. When I have colonoscopies, I go without anesthesia to ensure my mask stays on. I am going thru the extensive questionnaires with the nurse. I mention I just flew back from Hawaii, and she asks me if I am feeling any flu like symptoms. Now let me describe the other factors:

having Covid, or any other illness. You are far more likely to have it than I am. I haven't been sick in 5.5 years, and have never had Covid, but you probably have. To be honest, I felt a little bad for her because she was required to ask such outdated questions.

Yet, there she was, maskless. I get the pressure to go maskless, but the head nurse was at least masked. The gal asking me questions wouldn't have been alone.

I am in a hospital split top and the only other thing I am wearing is an N-99 Envo mask with the halo strap. Everyone else, except for the head nurse for the procedure, is maskless. The head nurse is in some sort of modified surgical mask with head straps instead of ear loops.

The nurse asking the questions is maskless. Holding back an eye roll (or not) I said, no, I am not feeling any flu symptoms because I wore this mask on the plane with no drink or food. And I consistently mask any time I am indoors. To be quite frank, I'm not the one you need to be concerned about

The stock market is so odd. Made more money this week in 401k than working a real job. My partner was able to retire because of Nvidia stock. He didn’t have to sell the house to retire. Seems the only way to get ahead now. And we are only benefiting cuz we got lucky. Rather unfair.

One of the most significant moments of the 2026 cycle likely happened Tuesday night during the Ways and Means markup of the tax portion of Republicans' reconciliation bill. It got no attention at the time and little since, but it is wildly important. Here's what happened--

Went looking at homes in a rural, quiet area just for fun. Except the idea of unidentified people claiming to be ice could at any time invade your home without a warrant & without evidence puts a damper on that. Assume seizure of property by the gov’t is next, so what’s the point of buying?

Just to be clear, we reached the arresting-judges-and-deporting-US-citizens-without-due-process stage of the slide into authoritarianism today. And the citizens in question included a toddler and a child with cancer who needs treatment in the US.

I’d love to say #leopardsatemyface here, but this is not the kind of person who actually gives a sh*t about her constituents, so it’s no skin off her back.

Last night was the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride to warn the Minutemen of approaching British troops. I want to take a moment to share an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence's grievances against King George III. Remind you of anyone?

It always boggles my mind that I, a journalist, am expressly forbidden from trading stocks, but members of Congress, with vastly greater knowledge of market-moving news, are allowed to profit by front-running markets, and so may profit by in essence stealing from the public they represent.

And when they are not able to deport American citizens, then they will imprison them, then eliminate them? Pretty obvious where they are going with this.

And a recession is just foreplay for a depression.

#ProudBlue #MomSky JP Morgan Chase predicts a recession in the later half of 2025. JPMorgan believes the US economy will enter a recession in the back half of 2025 as the impact of President Trump tariffs takes hold in the economy. Trump should be impeached! finance.yahoo.com/news/jpmorga...

For my part, I do understand that huge swaths of people are being hurt. It is because of the mass destruction being forced on innocent people that I enjoy watching people suffer that did this to us & themselves.

FAFO liberals are my least favorite kind of people. They have no empathy for the perspectives of other people and they think it's funny when innocent people and their children suffer. They're ghouls.

I care deeply about people in the macro sense & wish consequences on individuals who would harm some other group. Call it FAFO, or #leopardsatemyface, etc. There have been far too few consequences for people who voted for this hell. And I am here to see them burn.

We are heading into a major depression with leaders who are not interested in saving us. It makes sense if you understand T wanted to destroy the US economy and the US. T has been broadcasting this for years. Not sure why people didn’t know enough to take their 401k money out of the market.

People keep thinking this won’t happen, but you can easily see T sign up as VP to some pansy that will resign the second he takes office. Then T gets his 3rd term.

Anyone discounting a 3d Trump term per the 22d am + the 12th am is thinking magically: The 22d dsn’t bar *serving* a 3d term, only being *elected* 3 times. The 12th dsn’t bar running for VP unless “ineligible” to serve as Pres, but Trump isn’t ineligible. QED! www.nytimes.com/2025/03/30/u...

SIL commenting on her “amazingly healthy” brother who had a heart attack 2 years ago & how no one could have ever guessed he would have a heart attack. Not one mention of how many times he’s had Covid. SIL had it twice & she’s more careful than him, so there you go.

Anyone asking these questions has been asleep at the wheel a long time & also shouldn’t be trusted.

Half of the United States has been slowly and carefully inculcated by Fox News to believe that the other half of the country is their enemy and out to ruin their lives. Once this was established, it didn't take long for those viewers to value hurting these other Americans over helping themselves.

Update on the job search: I started a new gig this week that has good potential to become a permanent role. It is 100% remote so I am thrilled to be able to continue into my 6th year of full WFH. This is a huge reason we’ve been Novids. Yay!

Side note, I was “unemployed” for 10 months, 5 of which were spent on a huge community project, then the holidays, then 2.5 months of focused searching. I always have to have a project to work on, so I am glad to have this opportunity.

The leopards will be getting fat.

I think there is going to be a Red Rural Recession and soon if all the cuts continue as is All the firings, cancelling of grants and contracts with companies , the closing of offices, disproportionately impact small towns, cities and states. Their finances will be turned upside
