It turns out punishing coup plotters actually is an effective deterrent!

if you’ve never read a rather haunted life about shirley jackson, I highly recommend it

Flaming Hydra@flaminghydra.com

ALSO TODAY: @raxkingisdead.bsky.social on Shirley Jackson suffocating as a faculty wife at Bennington. “Locals whispered about her and her family—even the trash collector gossiped about how many liquor bottles he collected from their house.” flaminghydra.com/the-friends-...

Is this like a reboot of 'Footloose'?

Chris Sommerfeldt@c-sommerfeldt.bsky.social

New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility. w/ @grahamrayman.bsky.social & Joe Anuta www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

Please stop reposting that same garbage post, you're even broadcasting his dumb remarks in a larger font size than your own! I blocked him on day one yet have seen this nonsense screenshotted 100x today No dunk in the world is worth amplifying the fash

So eager to learn and connect!! thank you!! and congratulations, with all my heart

Don't take it seriously, take it as a weapon in your hands. The strategy used in Brazil worked bc we had 3 weeks to win a huge shitload of votes, maybe for different times its better to have a different strategy. Timing and coordination are also importante (sse about the Janones guy)

Basically; only fight when you can make them look stupid, don't waste your time engaging on their terrain, and be aware of when you're getting pulled into a tarpit to get tangled up when you have better tasks to perform. It turns out working politics online is a lot like playing Warhammer

I've been avoiding all Meta apps, but am ready to join in a sane strategy based on these ideas Any advice?

Some ground rules that have helped us: - Go outside your bubble, try new social media channels - Don’t underestimate the power of WhatsApp (although less so in the U.S.) - Post on the Instagram grid, not just stories - Watch every Instagram video until the end before sharing - IGNORE THEM

read this THREAD it is the most exciting thing

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

Genuinely I don't know that it comes across to people who haven't been here to watch how almost unbelievable this was, just people taking something that looked impossible and dragging it kicking and screaming all the way to inevitability.

These scary stories are meant to persuade you that there's An Emergency that can only be set right with infinity amounts of public money, your money

(it dodged a badly configured paywall to access read-only statistical information that was already available to anyone willing to pay a few dollars. Anthropic notified the Georgia government of the breach and they ignored it) www.axios.com/2026/10/25/a...

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

So happy for Brazil and the world!! Now for the U.S. !!!!!!!!!! 🤞

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who spared a thought for my country today, who amplified information about the coup d’état attempt, and worried about Brazil’s democratic future—the world’s democratic future. We won! Women won! The Amazon won! Young people won! Democracy won! Hope won!

Musk and Zuckerberg are the ones who really need to face the music, be made an example of, see their companies nationalized Who can even count how many deaths these egomaniacal dullards have caused

Lora Kolodny@lorak.bsky.social

Musk said he restricted Starlink in Ukraine- causing fast moving drones to lose connectivity - and that he had every right to do so because of some terms of service or contract that he didn't show us. (He didn't address suddenly doing this with no warning to Kyiv.) www.cnbc.com/2026/10/24/u...

Using your own outlandish amount of money and influence to choke other people's right to vote is so infinitely disgusting Not possible to express how much contempt I have for anyone who'd try to interfere with someone else's right to have even a small say in how their own lives are determined

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

Sure, he can say this sort of thing as a candidate in a safe, blue, hippy state like Kansas...

BeshearStan@beshearstan.bsky.social

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

This shit is so insane to me, same with Italy. It's like imagine if it was 1956 and West Germany was like ’we just finished talking about how bad the Nazis were, now meet Adolf Hitler Jr, he's just a little guy who loves his dad and wants to recuperate his image, we're going to elect him chancellor'

au contraire it's the nonsensical columns and faux 'opulence' in a chain restaurant called The Cheesecake Factory, that is the obvious 'joke' come on y'all

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

i feel like this evan barker person does not understand the joke obama is making, which rests on being familiar with the cheesecake factory and understanding that it is nice but not opulent.

The White House has lost all claim to respect obviously but wow Bill Clinton is one of the last people on planet Earth who should be demanding respect for the White House I just.. no

Chris Geidner@chrisgeidner.bsky.social

I simply don't need Bill Clinton's (conveniently also weirdly homophobic?) takes on treating the White House with respect. I just don't.

Whoever tries to stand in the way of exacting the maximum accountability for Trumpists must be instantly and permanently disgraced and heckled mercilessly in every restaurant, every bar, every stadium

Schooley@schooley.bsky.social

If Democrats actually win big because people want a check on Trump corruption I expect every move to do so will be covered in the corporate media as being risky to their 2028 position.

Block the centrists on socials, shut them out, do not invite them on your podcasts or panels, demonstrate through social, academic, and media blacklisting that their views are abhorrent and totally unworthy of the attention of people focused on building a post-Trump society

'Specular cinema,' a dazzling new critical framework that instantly brings DIGGER and much else into focus (ton of spoilers here and also permawhoa)

Flaming Hydra@flaminghydra.com

TODAY: @jdconnor.bsky.social on DIGGER and trends in spectacle and cinema, “a cruel, assaultive insistence on being seen and heard—seen and heard inside a theatrical frame that the movie will proceed to blow right through.” flaminghydra.com/r/06a4b150?m...

The public will to accountability is snowballing. If Democrats harness that energy, nothing can stop us. There's a real possibility that Republicans who want a political future in a post-Trump world will vote to impeach and remove. We really can get to 67.

Citizens' Impeachment@citizensimpeachment.com

The opposite of "wait him out" is NOT "try to check him" It is "do everything possible to impeach, convict, and REMOVE the fascist criminal from power as soon as possible" "try to check him" is just another version of "let him stay in power and continue to wreak massive pain and destruction"

please explain this to Bernie Sanders
