2023 Beshear is also what I constantly point to for the lack of salience for anti-trans arguments. The ads were nonstop hammering Andy on his vetoes and past statements and he basically just said "we're all children of God" and a bunch of people were just like "yeah, that makes sense" lol

One of the first things I witnessed when I moved to Kentucky was a mother scolding her little girl for teasing her brother. "You're being ugly right now, and God don't like ugly." I've encountered MAGA bullshit here, but what I've encountered more of is people who believe God don't like ugly.

Include the next sentences he said. The ones they didn’t air. The ones where he his love of his neighbor includes trans exclusion, with transphobic terms, fear mongering about something that is not happening. He doesn’t stab himself in the back, and I disagree with his understanding of “love.”

I appreciate the religious consistency but these are political issues that deserve political responses. The attempt to impose power over gender issues is a flex of patriarchal muscle. It permits the state to define manhood and womanhood, inviting a termite to infest the fiber of personhood.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan makes it absolutely clear "your neighbor" includes people you don't like- even Samaritans. But if Jesus told the story today the Samaritan would have to be replaced by a gay, transgender, undocumented immigrant. That's who would be helping the beaten traveler.
