Nikole Hannah-Jones's essay about the school she chose for her daughter launched conversations everywhere. Chana Joffe-Walt has been talking with Nikole as she prepared that essay. She also talked at length with Nikole's daughter. Hear their conversations in our new episode, out tonight.

Jeez. The court may have stopped some third-country removals at the last second yesterday, but ICE recalibrated quickly. Sept. 24 saw the most ICE flights+removals in the months I've been keeping a daily log. --at least 90 flights --at least 18 removals, including Haiti --plus a stop at Gitmo

Wow. $15,000-20,000 refundable tax credit (you get the money like a grant if your taxes aren't as high as the benefit) for keeping journalists hired. $15,000 for hiring new ones. $7,500 for hiring part-time. For-profit, nonprofit, **sole-proprietors** — doesn't matter. How did this happen???

"Time passing has a way of showing you which stories have staying power, which stories might have some universal ideas or insights embedded in them. My favorite place to look for stories is unresolved events in the past,” said @willjames.bsky.social of @kuow.org.

Guys I can’t keep doing this independently. I need a job. If you know of a place—advocacy, OSINT org, think tank, left media, etc—where I could take this work in-house, pls let me know. I admire the folks making independent work for them, but I am collapsing under the weight and the lack of impact.

A few minutes ago, two ICE flights operated by Journey Aviation landed in Eswatini, likely another third-country removal of immigrants to a maximum security prison there. Nineteen people have already been sent there on previous ICE flights in the last nine months. Only two have been released.

The trans sports ban are almost completely an invention of the media, conservative and mainstream. it has been years of lies, of shoddy fact checking on just completely false conservative claims, years of phony concern trolling.

We are swiftly headed for a society in which a trans kid must undergo state mandated torture, are banned from being on line, are banned from hanging out in most public spaces, are banned from using bathrooms at school, banned from accessing the health care they need, and banned from playing sports.
