Honestly think the flying car is a real Fonz jumps the shark moment. Total failure to read the room. No one believes his bullshit anymore. It’s just desperate and sweaty.

I feel like every amazing announcement about AI besides its ability to screw with other computer systems is always followed by “it stole from a person actually”. Like when they built that AI sepsis model that just noticed when nurses started documenting vital signs more frequently.

Oh my god. Are you telling me another moral panic about the children was baseless?

JAMA Network Open@jamanetworkopen.com

Among Scottish children followed from ages 5 to 15 years, #ScreenUse was minimally associated with developmental difficulties after adjusting for family functioning, with early high screen-use predicted difficulties at age 10 but not at age 15. ja.ma/4blJeGg

Our world cup bingo. Center square in the last seconds of the game for the horizontal win was the crying british child with tears streaking his face paint. Literally every game the camerman has found a crying kid. It’s kinda messed up.

This story is 🤯 Andrea Shaw’s twin toddlers died—she blamed vaccines & collaborated with RFK Jr’s extreme anti-vaxx activist group CHD She was lead plaintiff in a case in which CHD sued AAP claiming that advocating for vaccines is racketeering 👀 Shaw has now been indicted for murdering her kids

It's not the vaccines.

The US team is toast. Mixed feelings. On the one hand the red card call was BS. On the other it was gross to have a president lean on a sports competition. A win would have been sullied anyway. Now I can root for Norway and the Terminator.

Just an absolute rocket from the corner into the upper corner of the goal. This whole cup has been pretty electric but this game is top notch. And now Messi pulling it ahead again with a great corner kick rolling off the defenders.

Good news friends! Our colleagues at a number of elite institutions have decided to update the Harper's Letter. This time in a moral panic of grievances about the left being, your guessed it, mean to them in higher ed. www.chronicle.com/article/has-...

They want affirmative action for heterodox ideas. They don't want to have to compete for publication alongside their colleagues where they're being dismissed, or do the hard work of starting their journals or winning respect through scholarship and work. They want equal time just for being them.

You heard it my ivory tower friends. It's time to bring back DEI, but this time for whiny conservatives who are butthurt they aren't being taken seriously because they blame minorities and trans people for everything. So tedious.

Of course it was. Because as much as they can whine and complain that heterodox ideas aren't tolerated or heard, academia is actually infinitely more tolerant of them than the actual people suppressing speech - the right wing fascists. What they want is to be free of *criticism*.

The only solution is for others to take control of these wayward departments and make sure we get DEI for racists back. Need those conservative white male voices, that apparently can't cut it on their own two feet without a little equity and inclusion help from the grievance brigade.

I say, they should pull themselves up by their bootstraps and compete in the free market of ideas. Stop crying oppression and sharing these victim narratives. It's embarrassing. You need to learn to help yourselves. Oh, meanwhile, our colleagues at an ADA conference were ejected for "politics".

Where are they being suppressed? Well, the usual, "social" determinants of crime for instance. Wait, the left wing ivory tower isn't discussing social determinants of crime now? Wait a minute, "social", I see, we cant say what we really want to see which is "racial".

I know this game, I've seen it played all before. Cherry-picked examples of possible excess of proof of academic intolerance, some examples of academic misconduct or mediocrity, no quantitative analysis *at all*, clearly, they need to be authoritarians to maintain their death grip on academia!

Basically, dressed in a patina of academia talk, authors cherry pick some examples of the "intolerant" left in academia saying woke stuff like women in hunter-gatherer societies hunted too, and then being proven wrong within a year by other colleagues. This, you see, is dysfunction.

Because clearly, a literature that saw a problem with left-wing biased conclusions, investigated it, found errors, and corrected it, must not be functioning correctly! This is somehow proof that heterodox (no shit they even use heterodox) voices are being suppressed.

I think there must be enough degenerate gamblers that don’t smoke that a nonsmoking Vegas casino would be a major draw. Why are we hosting medical conferences in these buildings full of second hand smoke? It’s bananas. Blew my nose this morning and my snot is black. Indoor smoking is so gross.

And the crazy thing is when I was kid *all* buildings were like this. It’s hard to believe we ever tolerated people making everything smell gross. Now Ive got to dry clean all my suits again, this sucks. I might have to put the kabosh on future conferences here. The whole city is an ashtray.

I think as science communicatiors we’re not doing a good job in the moment. Where are the skeptics boldly going out and saying the bubble being built around space exploration is not ever going to happen? Even Neil Degrasse Tyson, despite pointing out the stupidity, is kinda going along with it.

I would like to see a Astrophysicist on CNBC patiently explain what a magnetosphere is and also how there is no atmosphere to speak of, or liquid water, or *any reason to go at all*.

Why isn’t anyone explaining radiative cooling and to build the data centers in space they’re describing they’d need cooling arrays the size of a small state like Vermont? Or that solar doesn’t work substantially better in space? They could just build solar/BES here for a millionth of the cost?
