I know that nobody really likes it, but let's do a round of 'think about how it sounds to phrase women's football as a spin-off and men's football as a default'

See, the Falcons (2-4) taking down the 49ers (6-0), that's the W/L sweet-spot you want to be in

🏈 TB 33 - 6 CAR 0:04 2Q This game has a 35.87% chance of ending in Scorigami. Most likely Scorigami: 43-9 (1.09%)

Meanwhile, if you were playing a drinking game for every time the Sky Sports (and Fox) broadcast mentioned 'National Tight Ends Day', you would be in a dangerous medical position

Per Fotmob, Bournemouth's two 'gift goals' add up to about 1.1xG of their 2.2xG, which still leaves them enough left over to have out-created United. Away from home, with less possession, and leading much of the match

Our hypothesis: LLMs have a pressure for information density, leading to compressed language, novel ngrams, and a preference for short alternatives in linguistic alternations, even when this is not humanlike - humans have a pressure for successful communication with other humans

There's a certain type of striker who should lobby for TV companies to get live tracking data graphics provision, to stop their games being dominated by touch graphics

an investigation i'd really like to do is stuff around 'passes into quote-unquote good areas where the receiver is travelling at speed at angle X/Y/Z' my intuition is that e.g. this guy does amazingly in the 2 steps before the pass to rotate his body, and if he doesn't the cross goes straight out

This is an absolutely diabolical free-kick routine by FC Copenhagen that I'd be trying to copy if I were working on this for a club. The design is sooooo good. Decoy runner to make the defender drop a yard, then trots back to act as a screen for the second runner, who is the real target. Genius.

I see line-breaking passes that put the receiver in a mostly dead end relatively often and I haven't worked out how much 'in a mostly dead end' counteracts the line-breaking box entry nature of a pass

The BBC have started posting clips of Traitors on Instagram *ahead* of the night's episode (clips of the upcoming episode) and I am not here for it

You can take this energy to other platforms too and block those interview/podcast/TV clipper accounts on Reels etc

twitter is a lost cause obviously because it's a septic tank but i am begging the good people of bluesky to discern original work from empty aggregation accounts and spend your attention and time on the former, not the latter

I wish more journalists and influential outlets could divorce themselves from the narrative of "undercover tourism of weirdo internet trend" and insted focus on how these trends are vehicles for diagonalism.

Is there a way to turn off seeing peoples' threaded replies in your feed? E.g. person you follow posts, person B replies, person you follow replies to that a couple times

this is one of the things where I don't know how it shakes out, but using AI to produce examples to tailor to your tastes is/seems really useful

I often couldn't tell what I liked in a given output. So I built a tool: 100 renders, marks from 1 to 5, quick tags, and a summary that ties every mark back to the traits behind it.

it does, though, fall into the category of 'ah, we're discovering methods for fulfilling potential of a powerful technology, and that is a little scary'

El Capitan is what they predict the end of season league table on, btw

Inspired by a question from my son, I had Claude put together something I've always wondered - how long does it take for a supercomputer to make it to your home?

@tifofootball.bsky.social used to call Allan Saint-Maximin and Adama Traore as 'dribbly-boys'. They went away a few years ago, but with a modern implementation of the W-M formation, they are back and better than ever!

We are absolutely going to (eventually) develop a taste for VisSlop. In the meantime...

The easiness of getting early voting data and presenting it in slick looking ways thanks to AI is a really unfortunate fit with the difficulty of saying smart and meaningful things with early voting data. Stay data safe out there folks.

I at this point am like 90% convinced that reusable/shareable skills packages are a bad thing for LLM users. The 10% is that it can show you what's possible; the 90% is that people want to be incurious and just slap something in the only person who can effectively guide your tasks is you

god am i going to have to understand (and be able to explain) how diffusion models apply to words

Brighton saw you all complaining about xG and decided to skew the shot distance averages

There's fast starts, and then there's fast starts. Brighton were 3-0 up with 9:30 on the clock, the earliest a side has scored 3 goals in a Premier League game since Newcastle vs Tottenham in April 2023 (08:12). The pick of the bunch? Diego Gomez probably has a case...

Idly checking the Chelsea-Spurs lineups ahead of the WSL game in half an hour and... β€’ is Lucy Bronze a back 4 centre-back? (or is Fotmob wrong) β€’ a Thompson, Malard, James front three should be box office

James carries through midfield in transition, passes up to Alyssa Thompson who puts on the burners to the byline, cut back for Ellie Carpenter to finish. This is what you'd wanna see from this lineup
