🔥 The new “Gap Decorations” API allows us to add borders between grid rows/columns and Flexbox children. I spent some time playing around with it and it’s a lovely new feature. 😄 You can learn more on CSS Tricks:

css-tricks.comGap Decorations Are Now Available, Here’s What’s New | CSS-TricksToday, with CSS gap decorations fully supported in Chrome and Edge, starting with version 149, you can now very easily style gaps, and with a lot of control.

I spoke about EU federalism, and how the story of India provides a valuable lesson to Europe on the choice between unity or vulnerable irrelevance, during my keynote address at the EESC summit in Bulgaria earlier this month.

They just should hand out EU passports. Always wanted one after reading Oscar Wild considering him a world citizen when I was little

I'll definitely be reading this book by Sylvain Kahn this summer. europemorningpost.substack.com/p/the-eu-a-s...

The mid-1980s Soviet Union was famously dubbed a "gerontocracy." Between 1982 and 1985, three successive General Secretaries—Brezhnev, Andropov, and Chernenko—died in rapid succession, their advanced age and failing health paralyzing the state apparatus. 🧵 1/3

While this is certainly good news, it’s perhaps good to put in perspective: European companies spend about 100 billion euros annually to reach European customers through Google and Meta. This is why we need European platforms. Also platforms with ads. So that we can stop forking over the margins

Saint Stinky@saint-stinky.bsky.social

This is not to be confused with a 2.95 billion euro ($3.45 billion) fine against Google’s advertising monopoly issued by the European Union last year arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026...

We heard you. We agree. In light of recent developments in physical media, GitHub is proud to announce that you can now obtain your public repo on CD-ROM. Keep it. Lend it to friends. Pass it on to your children. Your code is physically yours, forever. Until you lose it, let's be real. gh.io/cd

40 years ago today, the European Communities, which would later become the EU, officially raised the European flag for the first time.   The 12 stars have since become a symbol recognised far beyond Brussels.   Here’s to unity, solidarity and harmony among the peoples of Europe.

I had a passing thought the other day that if only Google Wave was open sourced, we could now finally translate it into a non sucky programming language and give it another chance af life. And then I saw this and realized it is, in fact, open source

Nicholas (@ultimape) Perry@ultimape.bsky.wovensoup.com

So what you do is have the agent interact entirely through tool calling only and have its main tool calling mechanism be Apache wave. All of its internal context is basically just the wave document in its current state. Effectively at that point it can edit its own memories.

Google be Google - my favourite line of the year so far is @wil.to (apologies for paraphrase) “Google participates in the standards process like a bear participates in the camping process”

OMG yes! When finally a dev with a sense for efficiency takes a stab at AI 😍

DeepSeek v4 Flash is able to use an EDIT tool I re-designed compared to what people normally use. The READ tool returns lines+tags, like: 1:f3_c int main(...), where the four chars are base64 crc of the line. So when there is to edit, there is no need to repeat the old line, just the tag.

The world’s largest sand battery got through Finland’s harshest winter in years. 2,000 tonnes of sand, heated to 500-600°C by cheap power, feeding district heating in Pornainen. And it worked. Result from one install: oil down 100%, emissions down 70%. Industrial process heat is the real prize.

Inspiration Monday!! If you like illustrations and technical drawings, you will love the work of Bryan Macomber. He created those amazing dataviz that explains, step by step, how some items work technically. For example, the Pez dispenser: mechanical-pencil.com/products/pez

DOOM.css is getting somewhere. Gameplay is pretty much done completely in JavaScript, but the whole rendering is 100% CSS. This map is 768 div's with 3D transforms. Added a nice spectator view as well which is literally just adding a couple of CSS custom properties override for the rendering.

Ever wondered why text never aligns perfectly? You set padding to 24px. You check it in dev tools. But visually it looks like 32px. The reason is invisible space above and below every text element. CSS includes it by default because of how line-height works.

All Europeans will pay the price for their leaders' reaction to the 🇺🇸🇮🇱 attack on Iran this weekend. European leaders (all except Pedro Sanchez) have now accepted the end of international law. The consequences of this will be felt not for weeks, not for years, but for decades

That was a fantastic experience. I could kind of understand 1300 English because it resembled German and other languages even more

Dave Keating@davekeating.substack.com

Very cool exercise. A blog post about a visit to an English seaside town is written in ever-older forms of English until it becomes incomprehensible to us. Even though the whole thing is in English. I stopped understanding at 1400. A reminder that language isn't static.

Euronews is publishing op-eds from 🇺🇸lobbyists & pretending they're news articles. It blasts "decoupling fantasies & grandstanding" from those wary of 🇺🇸, and praises VDL's 🇺🇸🇪🇺 surrender deal. It was written by "EU Tech Loop", the blog of a 🇺🇸 lobbying group. But it's labelled as a normal news article

Just great. Probably half of parliament did a brexit-style "it probably won't matter but makes me look good" crap vote, and the last ten were bribed by Donald's thugs...

In a shock development, the European Parliament voted today (by just 10 votes) to send the #Mercosur free trade agreement signed by 🇪🇺President von der Leyen in Paraguay on Saturday to the EU high court for review - possibly delaying it by two years.
