I’ve been on a real Star Trek kick lately, watching SNW and Starfleet Academy. I generally am not too down on the new stuff, I think it’s good fun, and it’s nice to have some TV that’s trying to have a message, a lot feels bland lately. All that said, I just restarted Voyager and it’s SO strong

Outside of that, Season 1 asks a lot of big questions and has a lot of great stuff going for it! I still like the acting, which comes off very 90s in a charming, if slightly melodramatic way. Remembering the later seasons, I can see who a lot of these characters are going to be growing into

It’s not perfect, there’s a lot of stuff that hasn’t aged great or must have clearly not been great at the time, like Neelix. Everything to do with Chakotay’s roots has being retrospectively very silly due to the fact they were getting their advice from “Jamake Highwater”, but they weren’t alone

It comes off at least as well meaning, and there is some writing that I think is definitely the writers taking it seriously and trying their best with information they don’t know is bad, but I’m also not Native and won’t weigh in more than that.

I’d forgotten, I’d forgotten my friends (not Neelix) and how good they are (not Neelix)! The writing is so good (not for Neelix) and the episodes are all fun and identifiable and mostly memorable. Even the bad ones are usually pretty fun!

Weird accomplishment: I once stood on top of a volcano watching a different volcano erupt

Weird accomplishments: I brought down a real-life sumo champion (ozeki rank) to the floor during a fan-event match. OK, I hit the floor first but HE WENT DOWN WITH ME. I'm 99% sure I'm personally responsible for an announcement at Tokyo Disneyland (I did nothing illegal, but I shouldn't say more.)

If McConnell does turn out to be alive and walks into the senate like nothing happened in a few days, I’ll be forced to conclude that he consumed the vitality of Graham. If that’s something he can do, I’ll be wishing him a speedy recovery from many future illnesses.

I love the Spanish language. It’s beautiful and getting better at speaking it has been good for me on its own terms in addition to bringing me closer to my wife’s family. But goddamn “galletas” is a stupid word. The difference between a saltine cracker and a chocolate chip cookie is massive.

Really enjoying Blood Work's current series, and starting it with Blood Work Presents: How a Gun Works. I know a little about that, in my experience the function of a gun is to post a picture of one or several and the every one who sees it has to Listen to Blood Work
