This is a great example of the importance of understanding exactly what your data is really saying.
Oh boy, are the Right excited by this graph recently published by The Economist! And of course none of them has bothered to read the article itself (TBF, it is behind a paywall!). So as always, let's add a little context and explain why these kinds of comparisons are so problematic 🧵1/25

If you're unsure about how how Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) works, then here is an example. The policy and practice are still in their infancy, and we all have a lot to learn. But this is a great start, and something to build on for the future.
Nature bounces back: 5,000 butterflies appear at chalk grassland restoration project at Halnaker Hill in Sussex, two years after its reversion from arable land I’ll be talking lots about chalk grassland restoration in my next book THE GHOSTS OF CHALK COUNTRY… www.theguardian.com/environment/...
Trump and his collaborators have no moral compass.
Witkoff to Putin: "You talk so much about President Trump being a humanitarian. You're a humanitarian also, sir, I salute that. I commend you, I thank you." HE MURDERS BABIES! BABIES!!! In their strollers. He murders adults too, entire families. Every day. I can't believe I'm fucking watching this!

The EFRA Committee's new wildfires report has some good parts, but it also parrots the demands of wealthy grouse moor owners to review moorland burning regulations. You don’t fight fire with fire – you fight it with water. We need to re-wet our peat bogs! committees.parliament.uk/committee/52...

They know full well what Europe is doing to help Ukraine. They're lying to ignorant American voters. How do we know? The TV station does not broadcast overseas.
"Where is Germany?" asks the fool, unaware that the country has donated five fully equipped Patriot fire units from it's own stockpiles between 2023 and 2025. In fact, Germany began donating Patriot equipment to Ukraine at the same time as the US and continues to do so, whereas the US has stopped.
Trump continues to go along with Putin's claim that Ukraine is not a real country and therefore lacks sovereign rights. Be warned. This is how he learned to treat Canada.
Putin and Trump are openly discussing in the media a trilateral summit with Xi Jinping in China next month on ending the war in Ukraine. Conspicuously absent: Ukraine. Somehow, I doubt very much that we will like what they come up with. Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.

Russia is a terrorist state.
‼️ Don’t look away! A baby in a stroller is among the three Ukrainian children Russia killed today in a park in Nova Vodolaha, Kharkiv region. Six people in total will never see another day because Russia continues its genocide of Ukrainians. Fifteen people were injured, including seven children. 💔
Russia's systematic strategy of making frontline cities unliveable for Ukrainians in preparation for occupation by Russians. Targeting of public gathering spaces, of civilians going about their business are not random isolated incidents, but a coordinated plan. www.forbes.com/sites/davidk...

Nature COP17 starts today, with governments gathering to assess progress towards restoring nature The target to protect 30% of land for nature by 2030 seems within reach, but ‘paper parks’ won’t cut it - eg just 7% of England is *properly* protected for nature www.theguardian.com/environment/...
They're capable of anything. And they're good at mining chaos. Don't fall for their provocations.
US, Russia, and Israel appear to be coordinating against Europe and Canada, and it is clearly escalating. Trump & Netanyahu face being declawed in a few weeks. We must remain calm and resolute, do not give in to their provocations and destabilisation attempts. Together strong.
This, to me, appears the most reasonable explanation. I don't think Trump would have had the idea on his own. I doubt he had the technical knowledge about variable speeds. So, someone must have suggested it to him, or did it on their own. #Starlink #Starshield www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2...

Remember: Trump is working for Vladimir Putin, whose entire purpose is to weaken the collective west and destroy its strength and stability. A cornerstone of that policy is to degrade trust and solidarity of purpose between allied countries.
Trump is increasingly making a habit of riling up his MAGA cultists against Canada, most recently reviving his threats against Canadian sovereignty with “51st state” rhetoric. Trump: “They are brutal.” “Canada isn’t one of us.” “They’ll end up being the 51st state.” #cdnpoli
Elon Musk interfered directly in US foreign policy to aid a hostile foreign power. He should be arrested, indicted and tried for the most serious crimes Instead, the president and his regime abets and conceals the crime to protect Russia.
The Telegraph obtained information that it was Elon Musk’s idea to reduce the maximum speed of Starlink-controlled (interceptor-) drones in Ukraine, then got cold feet that this might backfire on Starlink in the European market and then finally blamed Trump for this episode.
Remember: Russia is a terrorist state, and the United States and China are actively supporting them. It is Ukraine and Europe who are leading on the right side of history.
Poland’s Foreign Minister Sikorski: “The USA haven’t spent a single cent on Ukraine since January 2025, so more than 1.5 years. We in Europe are doing it.”

I am fairly convinced that Musk ordered the cutoff with Trump's consent because the Yandex attacks caused a drop in activity on X by Russian bots, and a fall in revenue. He then took fright at the political heat and blamed the administration. www.kyivpost.com/post/87091
Ukraine's surrender is the only way that Trump can leverage to claim to have ended the war (and to get Putin's blessing to extract money out of the settlement). Don't let that happen! www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...
