Idk how I feel about the fact that every game was put on therun without consent from the communities. That is kinda not okay to just mirror a leaderboard AND allow users to submit runs to it all of the sudden as well. I still do not trust Elo either, so this is a very weird predicament.

I think having data archived is fine and I appreciate that, but especially the fact that anyone can seemingly apply to a leaderboard and that every game just has submissions turned on by default is just not okay. Consent is nice. I know its automated but maybe have it opt in for communities.

Wow, the Steam NextFest is unbearable. Its just filled with so much AI Slop garbage, it is impossible to navigate and look for interesting new games. We already had a lot of low quality entries in the past, but this a new low. Insanely frustrating for someone who loves the NextFest.

Did someone sayโ€ฆ birthday? The twentieth anniversary of Sam & Max Season One (aka Sam & Max Save the World) is upon us, and weโ€™re celebrating with two weeks of Sam & Max development memories and giveaways! ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‘‡ #samandmax20th

Unity literally announced the "AI makes a game for you" thing as an April fool's joke in 2012 - dunking on the creative bankruptcy of the whole concept - before announcing it with a straight face just the other day.

Anything worth doing in this life of ours takes a lot of time and good ol hard work. Using AI to skip that will not bring you happiness.

Sorting some of my thoughts. Yes, the situation with SRDC (speedrun.com) is bad, your communities should consider moving in the long term, this has happened again now. However hastily jumping ships is also not the proper move. Take your time. Consult your communities. Keep your voice heard.

And please do not personally attack staff. The company decision is absolutely terrible and I find it so bad but I know the people working at SRDC and this does not warrant personal attacks. Keep being upset but dont hurt someone. Only thing I wanna add.

I just noticed some of this hear sounds like an LLM has written it, I think I must have consumed so much slop at this point on LinkedIn that I actually ended up conducting brainrot. Why on earth did I write so many short sentences there lol.

And if you have the resources and capabilities, consider joining a project working on alternatives to SRDC. There are some in the works, I do know of a single one right now but perhaps this is a motivational spark to start working on alternatives to SRDC. Competition is always good!

Also small sidenote to the Github Page thing. There are different solutions, as an avid FOSS supporter and as someone who does not enjoy AI to the slightest you can also have a look at Codeberg, they also offer static git pages. If anything, hope you can all get through this mess.

Backup your history locally as well. Half cooked solutions are also not the smart idea and it is also not the best idea to now start fracturing super badly. For game communities I will recommend again, have your resources available besides SRDC. And no, not on Discord either.

Not everyone is able to have their own website, but you can create a very simple Github Page for free as well. This should be more than sufficiant for most community ressources as well if your community cannot afford their own website otherwise. There are many guides on how to do that on Github.

Replying to @therun.gg

I wrote a blog post to go deeper into all this and to spread awareness. Please read it to dive deeper into what this all means. therun.gg/blog/leaderb... I spent like 10 hours reading through the terms to really understand it, but I'm not a lawyer. This is not legal advice

therun.ggLeaderboards and speedrun.comโ€™s new terms of servicespeedrun.com replaced its terms of use on 1 October 2026 and dropped the Creative Commons licence. What changed, why it matters for runners and community tools, and what you can do.

You'll own nothing and you will be happy

therun.gg@therun.gg

SRC changed their terms of use yesterday, and released a news post with an FAQ. They make it sound like not a big deal. It's a big deal. The Creative Commons licence is gone. They claim ownership over the data now. Thread about what this means, and what we can do about it ๐Ÿงต

Im quite frankly very devastated that VR is so expensive now. I really wanted to get into it, both development and playing actual vr games. However I am entirely outclassed really, which makes it pretty much impossible to even try this in the first place :(

Okay I'm crashing out, literally every Godot Meetup I've been participating in the last few months now has been hijacked by vibe coders and its been derailed to nothing but AI talk, I'm just fed up. Can we please just talk about game development please? I do not want to hear about AI tool #9032347.

To top it all off, now I see AI portfolio sites and AI resumes more and more? I feel like in the time I had to undergo surgery the entire world shifted even more. I just question, if you are applying for a creative position, isn't having an AI portfolio a gigantic red flag? I'm at a loss of words.

I was curious what gamedev people on twitch do. I am baffled on how every single one I have watched so far resorts to an LLM and that consistently. The irony was that some of the issues they had were so easy to find in documentation in a minute. They spent like 10 minutes arguing with the LLM.

Is programming just becoming a lost art at this point? It feels like most people stopped fully thinking on their own. Im just disappointed. "Uhh but I validate my output and adjust it afterwards." Yeah and I use salt and pepper in my instant soups. They are still instant soup, even with the spice.

That's TIME on gamescom GDQ and we've raised โ‚ฌ18,000 for Gaming for Democracy!!!! We're incredibly grateful to everyone who came out to see us at our very first gamescom!!! And thank you to our runners, staff, volunteers, Moonflow Media and speedruns.de for making this event possible ๐Ÿ’™

In a bit over 2 hours, I will be for the very first time in the GDQ stage at Gamescom and showcase Skylar & Plux Any%. You check out the run either in person or online right here: twitch.tv/gamesdonequi... Also check out the other Runs! The schedule is so packed: gamesdonequick.com/schedule/67

I don't work for Gears for Breakfast but I had to pleasure of getting to know some of these lovely folks. If I would be qualified I would 100% apply myself, so to everyone out there, go and apply! This is an amazing job opening.

Heyo! The Game Dev studio Gears for Breakfast where I work is hiring 2 new roles: "Gameplay Designer" & "Gameplay Programmer" - This is a fully Remote studio and we've been doing this for 14 years with great success! Good luck on your applications! gearsforbreakfast.bamboohr.com/careers/ #GameDev

Games Done Quick@gamesdonequick.com

Our schedule for gamescom GDQ is HERE!! Congratulations to all of our runners and thank you to everyone who submitted a run to our very first gamescom! We're so excited to be raising money for Gaming for Democracy this August and can't wait to see you in Germany๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’› gamesdonequick.com/schedule/67

Oh boy, there goes nothing. Wish me luck with this one. If I ever was hoping for a run to be accepted into an event, it would be this one. Fingers crossed. Would be also my first GDQ event and probably the only one I will be able to attend in the next years. One can just hope๐Ÿ˜”

Also this is the first time really where I submitted to a GDQ event. I never tried before because I was never able to afford going across the big pond (also now for even more reasons its not that much of a great idea for me to travel there)

Was a banger day, played bomb busters with friends and had simply a good time. Got sadly drenched in the rain today tho haha.

Matse007@matse007.bsky.social

Today is ๐ŸŽˆ and ๐ŸŽ‚ day.

The chances to go to an in person GDQ event suddenly have increased drastically. I will try to submit a run and get into the event. Would be a dream coming true, especially considering the current situation across the ocean making it kinda impossible for me to travel to a GDQ event otherwise.

Games Done Quick@gamesdonequick.com

For the first time in GDQ history, we're going overseas!!! We're heading to Germany August 28th-30th to be a part of gamescom 2026! We can't wait to see you there soon! ๐Ÿ’™ *Stay tuned for our charity partner announcement *Run submissions open May 4th-17th

For research purposes, I am looking for some game recommendations that are similar to classic 3D Zelda games (OOT,MM,TWW,TP,SS). What other games had a similar formula? I am aware of Darksiders, Okami and Dungeons of Hinterberg and a few Indie titles, but I would be happy to hear about more games.

People love to call 2014-2018 the "golden age of speedrunning" but honestly the community around speedrunning is so much better now. I do not miss the GDQ Cringe Compilations and anti-SJW grifters that took up so much of the conversation. Glad that stuff is mostly dead.

Building a complex player controller has been the most challenging software engineering task ever. There are so many things to take care of. It truly is mindboggling. I also should have planned it better. Means I (or someone else in our team) will have to rewrite it at one point.

However this is what I truly enjoy about GameDev. It is solving unique new problems each time. It is so much fun, however it is also very much exhaustive. I can't wait until I can work on some more simple things again.

Lol apparently my reddit account got pwned and I never noticed it. I also never got an email. Must have been a leak somewhere in the past. Oh well, lets see if I can get the username at least back.
