SACHA BARON COHEN: My satire exposes hate and bigotry in society. BORAT: (molesting donkey) I like very much eating from toilet!!!

I feel like junk mail gets a bad name. I am utterly delighted when I receive a letter and open it to find out it's simply spam nonsense instead of either bad news or more admin - which is what all post is

I am fairly certain that Jackdaw will get approved but the others will not. I'm not sure whether that will appease both sides and seems "pragmatic" or just piss everyone off.

Whilst myself and others thought the IEA projections a decade ago were wrong. We still didn't think solar would be so high so early

John Bistline@bistline.bsky.social

IEA’s 2014 outlook had solar at about 1,000 TWh in 2035. Actual 2025 generation is already around 2,800 TWh.

The US is seeking to release up to 17 million barrels of oil from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help curb fuel prices driven up by the war on Iran, Reuters reports. NB: the US uses 20 million barrels a day The strategic reserve only has 283 million barrels left, the lowest level since 1982

This also entirely applies to parts of consultancy and finance I have worked in

Earlier this year, E3G released a big report with the Department of War Studies at Kings College which showed that our dependence on gas is a major national security risk. Cutting heat pumps to fund defence is like not paying for a flu jab so you can buy lemsip. It makes no sense.

I love that nu-metal was basically "what if we take Rage Against the Machine but instead of being anti-capitalist and revolutionary it was about the appropriate extent to position your hands in the air. And butts"

Sorry to hear about the passing of Adam. Only met him once but we messaged back and forth. A real caring person

It’s weird being at edfringe without twitter. I sort of miss twitter. The discourse, the debates. Not the toxicity. Anyway here are some nice reviews from my Edinburgh fringe show. Sorry.

I met Julie Hesmondhalgh once after an event I did at the Edinburgh TV Festival & she came up to me and enthusiastically shook my hand like she did with all the contestants on #CelebrityTraitors immediately one of the nicest people I've ever met

Some people say UK should stop building clean energy and should extend its reliance on gas power instead Choosing my words carefully, I would say that it's an interesting time to be making that argument www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-win...

carbonbrief.orgAnalysis: Wind and solar save UK from gas imports worth £5.9bn during Hormuz crisis - Carbon BriefThe UK has avoided gas imports worth £5.9bn since the start of the Hormuz crisis as a result of record electricity generation from wind and solar.

Tour is coming to @thelowry.com in Manchester this Sunday 27th Sept 2026. Cannot wait! I nearly wrote 2027. I'm glad it's still 2026

This year has been brutal, and like most people you probably want to do more about climate change. But what, and how? Great news – I’ve written just the book for you! It’s called What One Person Can Do and it’s a clear and simple how-to guide, a roadmap to help you make influential changes...

In a world of policy reversal and active support for fossil fuel burning (the CMIP7 "High" scenario), we could end up well above 3C by 2100, have a ~70% chance of >4C by 2150, and a 30% chance of over 5C.

Important context on the uncertainty of various climate scenarios we talk about regularly

Zeke Hausfather@zekehausfather.com

The world has made real progress in steering away from some of the darkest climate futures where global emissions doubled (or more) this century. But as David Wallace-Wells and I note in today's NYT, we are not out of the woods yet, and climate uncertainty is not our friend: www.nytimes.com/2026...

I'm just guessing that between options: (a) Exxon have altered their climate sensitivity upwards, Or (b) An employee has got mixed up because he doesn't know the specifics. Then I would guess (b). But I could be wrong.

Has anyone actually checked the Exxon global outlook? As far as I can see all it says is emissions will drop 20% by 2050. There's no specific analysis in there about temp in 2050. I presume it was an employee stating that those levels would lead to 2.5-3C, which we already knew.

Anyway, main points are: • BAU is horrific suffering and they are causing it for profit. • Also I imagine they are considerably underestimating the speed of the energy transition

And that's not to say that this isn't possible. But most analysis suggests 2C by 2050. And while I think it could certainly be higher than that sooner, I doubt it's reaching 3C by then.

Basically I'm pretty sure that an Exxon director has said 2.5-3c by 2050, with the "by 2050" bit based on nothing. Like it will definitely lead to 2.5-3C this century. So he probably just said that and assumed since outlook projections run to 2050 that thats for temp too.

An oil war has driven petrol and diesel prices through the roof, so ExxonMobil is doing a cutesy social media campaign to make fossil fuels seem a natural part of our day.

I was on Channel 4 News podcast last week making this exact point. The supposed future taxpayers that politicians don't want to burden by borrowing to stop climate change are me and my children. Maybe just ask us.

James Murray@james-bg.bsky.social

This is a critical point that’s repeatedly ignored. If you’re under 45 there’s a good chance you’re still working in 2050 when we should be at net zero. If you’re under 25 there’s a good chance you’re alive in 2100 when current trends suggest we’ll be at 3C of warming and all that comes with it.

Enjoying how the inflation triggered by Trump's war increases the chances of the UK electing a populist climate-denying government that would have supported Trump's war and is fiercely opposed to the best solutions for tackling said inflation.

Listening to a man at the farmers market explain he’s out of eggs as “the ladies aren’t producing due to heat stress”— and another poultry vendor says he’s out, as he can’t keep them in this heat. Climate change is all around. We just have to open our eyes to see how it’s affecting our daily lives.
