Observable is just fantastic. It has really helped in my teaching and communication with students. So happy to see continued efforts to advance it. #visualization #observable

For more than a year, we’ve been quietly building an all-new Observable. Today, that new Observable is live on observablehq.com. Read Mike @ocks.org’s announcement: observablehq.com/@observableh...

JuliaCon is starting now. Livestreamed and recorded on YouTube. I have always liked how the Julia folks invite speakers from other languages than Julia, even as keynotes.

I am currently using VS Code for my Julia work, but I am considering alternatives. Anyone here who has some experience with the Flexible Julia plugin for PyCharm? What does it do better than VS code? What do you miss from VS code? #julialang plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/29356...

This was my introduction to Bayes in 1996! Little did I know then that I would see Jim Berger and a few other prominent Bayesian Scholars perform striptease in a run down night club in Spain two years later! #bayesian

Norm Matloff (1948-2026) @matloff.bsky.social I was made aware of the post below made by his daughter. We lost another friend and valued long-time contributor the #Rstats community, gone far too soon, and sure to be missed. His memory will be a blessing.

So many great scholars leaving Stats and Computing after Springer Nature announcing an insanely large article processing cost of 2390€ per accepted paper.

Robin Ryder@robinryder.bsky.social

I have just resigned from the board of "Statistics and Computing", along with 17 other Associate Editors. This was a difficult decision: this great journal has published many tremendous articles under the leadership of EiC Ajay Jasra, and before him David Hand, Gilles Celeux, and Mark Girolami.

My baby #JuliaLang package got an award! DifferentiationInterface.jl just received a national prize for open-source research software and I couldn't be prouder. We started this from a vague dream with @adrianhill.de, and reached 1000 dependents and 100k downloads last month. Research != just papers.

Do this, if you can! Your work will reach thousands of thankful Bayesians.

Now I'm also looking for a research software engineer to implement a pile of research results to R packages loo, posterior, bayesplot, projpred, priorsense, brms or/and Python packages ArviZ, Bambi and Kulprit. Apply by email with no specific deadline (see contact info at users.aalto.fi/~ave/)

Very nice 70 page intro to Julia in these notes. Well done!

Great to see the forecast package from R in native Julia. One less use case for RCall.jl in my workflow.

So me and my buddy chatGPT are now into using Lua filters in the Quarto YAML to hook into the pandoc AST to modify the inline LaTeX at compile time to convert LaTeX syntax to things that render correctly to html. It works, that is all I can tell you.

"Spotify for Linux is a labor of love from our engineers that wanted to listen to Spotify on their Linux development machines. They work on it in their spare time and it is currently not a platform that we actively support." Honest, but weird when you have the money and passionate people. #linux

Hmm, I can't quite pin it down, but something seems missing here?

Yes, the interoperability between Julia and many other languages is amazing! I often work in the other direction, calling for example these from within Julia code: - R (github.com/JuliaInterop...) - Python (github.com/JuliaPy/PyCa...) - Matlab (github.com/JuliaInterop...) from Julia. #julialang

JuliaCall is blowing my mind 🤯, running GPU-accelerated #JuliaLang code from Python was insanely easy!

RCall.jl is really useful. Take any function that you like from R and turn into a Julia function without any hassle. I use this a lot when benchmarking my research coded in Julia with established methods in R.
