It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

truthfully i have no feelings towards bioware's games. i'm not going to pretend i do. i haven't played them enough to have an attachment what i do have an attachment to is the livelihoods these layoffs are destroying, and the undeniable queer presence in bioware games all gone. and for what

A game that was well on its way to my 2026 goty list turns out is using AI. There was no steam disclosure, and the explanation has big "we didn't use it for the things we care about" energy that we gotta stop doing, man Generative AI is truly a radioactive thing that poisons everything it touches

blog.curiousquail.comSpirit Crossing's AI ProblemAI "assisted" Code is still generative AI and it's weird how people try to justify that it's not

i love coding for a living and the idea that i would willingly spend my time just reviewing code that a machine spat out is so insane to me i want to MAKE things with my HANDS

sorry, code is fucking beautiful. its fucking magical i can type words in the thing and fucking TRIANGLES just appear ? oops i typed it wrong and the triangles did something i didn't EXPECT ?? now weird shit is happening ?? this is the best shit of all time. i was born to fight the computer

i had a conversation with someone on reddit who said their entire job is reviewing code spat out by LLMs and how deeply unsatisfied they are at work now and how they find it hard to feel proud of anything they make anymore what did we do to this beautiful thing

but its fine we'll see who's laughing when nobody in the tech industry has used their brain for years and something breaks hint: it'll be nobody and we'll all be dead :)

its always deeply frustrating to me the idea that code could be considered anything other than art code is so deeply expressive you can learn an enormous amount from someone by looking at the way they code for example i have learned several people i know are psychopaths

"dont worry, we didn't use LLMs for real art, like writing, or graphics, or sound, we only used it for dumb gross useless basic shit like programming" always the funnest thing to read as a programmer, as someone whose whole career is based on code, whose handwritten library changed the industry etc

I frequently see "AI" boosters implying that LLMs are simply an innate and superior part of coding now, inescapable, and that literally all programmers agree with them. And, well. That, too, is a form of propaganda

I wrote a little piece about the ongoing battle for the soul of software as a craft, where we've been, and where I hope we're going

the stuff w/ jacob geller is enormously disappointing but i'd like to pull people up on the specific point that "he should've disclosed this" from everything we know, the victim did not want this and the person who did reveal it seemed to be doing so from a place of like, idk weird gossip?

the victim's wishes come first in every assault case and that is literally all that matters under the assumption that the abuser is not actively a danger to others obviously we can't know that

i think a big AI hang-up i don't see people talk about is simply that i don't want to talk to a computer ever even if there was somehow a completely ethical and environmentally friendly version of it: i don't want to talk to a computer

remember when the idea of typing "please" into your google search was something you condescendingly mocked your older family for doing and now all you fucking weirdos talk to your computer like its your friend

everything about the jacob geller allegations is deeply upsetting and traumatising, from the details themselves to their being publicised on twitter by third party texts seemingly without any consultation with the victim to the armchair detective posting that followed

my partner who has 4+ years of professional graphic design agency work is coming up to a year of being unable to find work now what a cool job market and cool world we live in

reddit got a lot worse when they added the ability to hide your posts from your profile and you can no longer do a gooner check on someone with a bad comment

so big walk is pretty fucking good ay friends and i finally found time to finish it off! we only broke the "spirit of the game" rules a couple of times and messaged in our group chat because there are like 2 or 3 puzzles that are actually simply a pain in the ass

not perfect but pretty damn close i think the traversal puzzles are clever in theory but so many of them ended up annoying or resulted in a level of backtracking that felt like frustrating and tedious busywork rather than solving a puzzle

Aw you need AI to write code or fix bugs for you? You need AI to write for you? You need computer to come up with your ideas? ๐Ÿฅบ What a shame your skills and knowledge are so woefully lacking that the mediocre output of AI seems good to you.

i just wanna stop hearing about it man. and no matter what i say or do i can't stop that or change the way its affected how i see the world and the art i love. it makes me genuinely profoundly sad whenever i think about it and i don't even have to say what it is

imagine being an established art team at an award winning studio and one day they trot in a guy who cheerfully says he's gonna Implant AI Tools Into Your Existing Workflow and Build an AI Art Pipeline. no matter how professional they remain, with craft gone your art team is gonna mentally check out

Oh, that's the creators of Lies of P specifically hiring an AI "artist" to work on their next game ๐Ÿ˜•

i think emulators are kinda beautiful in the way of explicitly creating a way for a piece of hardware to connect with another piece of hardware and i think decompiled PC ports of old games loses that beautiful context is this just an oldhead opinion

recompiling old games using AI feels like we're losing something in the "doing it for the love of the game" energy that emulation culture has had for years

its been really hard to watch all the studios that inspired me to become a game developer either struggle or completely disappear games industry's a pile of wank
