my main hope for the next four years is that the BC NDP rebuild from rock bottom and become a party that actually has principles in common with @avilewis.ca' federal segment and run again on electoral reform, climate justice, and care for your neighbour

there's something about seeing an anthropomorphic king cheetah politely push the button to call an elevator on behalf of a bemused-looking flight crew far from home that I will never stop smiling at

I have been meaning to write about this for a month or so now but it breaks my heart. AI has infected every hobby. Everything is noise. It's hurting existing communities and trudging through the slop is exhausting.

today is your reminder that the 'Guennol Lioness', a proto-Elamite statuette, confirms evidence that humans have been hot for massive furry women since at least 5000ish BCE, contemporary with our invention of the wheel and the first cohesive writing systems

I don't think it's an accident that @ko-op.com is committed to being AI free due to its democratic structure. The workers have made their stances very clear and their power to impact policy and workflows gives them the opportunity to define the workspace how they see fit.

More meat for the OBC delusional racist base. No broadly acceptable policies in the party platform; time to antagonize a minority group, a right-wing move as old as time, historically (& in many cases, still) turned by the right on women; Black people; queer people; Palestinians; Muslims; Jews...

"AI has ruined search engines, so I'm just gonna use AI instead" sure is an argument You can't really call AI "a technofascist, anti-human and anti-art project" and then try to rationalize using it anyways. Eventually you have to pick being part of the problem or the solution

Aura/Moom@moomanibe.bsky.social

I'll be honest, there is nothing more demoralizing to me than devs saying "I know AI is built on theft, and anti-labour, and harms the environment, but I'm going to use it anyway bc I don't believe individual choices matter". This is how a movement fails. www.molleindustria.org/blog/future-...

This means that the increased price of RAM and consumer electronics was a result of an artificial "supply chain crisis" created by Jensen Huang pushing NVIDIA's customers to take early delivery of GPUs. Jensen Huang is responsible for making life worse for everyone.

Ed Zitron@edzitron.com

NVIDIA seems to be channel stuffing, forcing Amazon and other customers to take early delivery. The argument that these things are "scarce" when you don't even have anywhere to plug them into is nonsense...unless NVIDIA is saying you NEED to take them now, or else. GPUs are stacked in warehouses.

it's cool how with the consolidation of streaming services that we've reinvented the Byzantine cable billing model we just tried to escape from first principles

After a reader reached out with questions about BC’s primary care provider waitlist, I went looking for data that would shed some light on the system, since the gov doesn’t voluntarily provide much info. I found data in an FOI response showing some residents are on the waitlist for 5+ years.

Some BC residents wait five years to get connected with a doctor, here’s how politicians plan to change that. Over a million BC residents are still without access to primary care New from Health Reporter/Associate Editor @emmaarkell.bsky.social pressprogress.ca/some-bc-resi...

for all the judgement from its community back when Cohost ate it, it looks like Pillowfort ended up with the *exact* same problem and the *exact* same point of failure, and now we're down two websites of this sort that we're probably never getting back. bleak—and everything is, as always, Cohost!

I've been telling everyone for years: no one shows up to municipal elections. Your city council and mayor determine way more of your day to day quality of life than federal elections but people barely talk about it. With organizing the left can takeover entire cities. We did it. So can you.

I’m levitating today in the warm afterglow of a left-wing surge in my home city of Vancouver! Democratic socialists and progressives united to take on the power of big money and the politics of fear and division. dailyhive.com/vancouver/va...

it's interesting to confront the backlash to modern design trends in the context that they are not *necessarily* purely driven by AI, but also, they are inextricable from their *association* with AI

I just have a feeling when the dust settles on this bubble we're going to flee the "neon gradient borders" trend like the plague

Don't let billionaires convince you slop is the future. They're used to managing & directing, not making things themselves. Of course they can't see the difference. They don't understand your love for the craft. Keep making personal, beautiful games. You've got my support 💖
