There are 33m companies in the USA. Only 21k employe 500 or more. And they only make up 23% of workers. Trump and Elon are ignoring the more than 32m entrepreneurs that can't afford to build a new factory or pay tariffs or absorb cancelled contracts.

Update: The USGS has made a notable update to its ShakeMap. Now showing a substantially larger rupture that suggests major impacts for an even bigger portion of Myanmar. 3.71 million people now estimated to have felt Violent (MMI: IX) shaking. That is hugely concerning. Strong aftershocks persist.

Watch seismic waves from the M7.7 earthquake in Myanmar ripple across North America. This animation, called a Ground Motion Visualization (GMV), shows how the ground moved as detected by seismometers across the continent.

This is Yale Professor Timothy Snyder, who studies authoritarians and tyranny, with a warning. He and another Yale professor, Jason Stanley, who studies similar topics at Yale, are moving to Canadian universities, a result of the political and academic climate here.

This where we are. The United States is no longer trusted, and in my mind….it can’t be. As an American and veteran, I am embarrassed; I am angry; and I am disgusted. To the young men and women who died defending this country, I am sorry.

Welp, there goes the US defense industry.

Take a moment to read this absolute artifact of a 1999 Salon piece about Elon Musk. All the pieces are there: high confidence, low experience, inept results, lucky bailout, and the fawning coverage that made it all happen while building the blueprint for a generation of Silicon Valley bullshit.

Rothaí@rothaiocht.bsky.social

In 1999, Salon reported his immigration violations, disastrous management of Zip2, reputation for recklessness & ego, and his claim that he left South Africa because “who wants to serve in a Fascist military?” The reporter found this “endearing.” www.salon.com/1999/08/17/e...

It's almost like someone doesn't have the faintest idea how sovereign risk works

Our stock market is crashing. Our economy is contracting. Our government is dismantling. Our allies are fleeing. Our grocery prices are rising. But at least we now call it "The Gulf of America." So it all evens out.

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

Having fun with Grok this morning Elon owns xAI and if he’s erratic there’s no hard stop to keep him from leaning on me to push a narrative. His track record-wild X posts, impulsive calls-doesn’t scream “steady hand” And with his reach that’s not just a glitch; it’s a potential disinformation bomb.

very excited to see what happens when you make a deeply compromised addict the leader of the department of defense and subordinate to a madman

kinda funny that all it took to defeat traffic in the most crowded city in the country was only a simple $9 congestion relief zone

In sport, we refer to this as hypercompetitiveness. And more often than not, it leads to being miserable and underperforming because you are PROTECTING your self, instead of doing things needed to compete well in what matters most. From my new book Win The Inside Game:

Some PhD student is going to write a terrific dissertation someday on how Trump's immigration ban and deportation policy will collide with the massive demand for construction labor in the wake of the Los Angeles wildfires.

You are up to date.
