Alito and Thomas gonna retire to turn out the GOP voters, and even if GOP loses the senate, they’ll rush two people through during the lame duck.
🚨🚨🚨Trump just made another comment about how his “two big monsters” will make history next week. “So, I wonder if I should say this. I’d like a little advice from my two people, my two big monsters. My two monsters are going to be the biggest stars in the country in a week.”

If you are angry about 13 Iowa voters having no coherent political ideology and voting behavior, boy do I have bad news about almost everybody who votes. People literally walk into the booth not knowing who they’re gonna vote for and decide the second they cast their vote.
No reason to get mad imo. These people literally have not thought about any of this. The answers they give are on the spot post-hoc justifications for a vibes based vote that they believe sounds plausible. They’re trying to answer questions on a test, not explaining a thought process.

“these things are you birthright as white Americans but you can’t have them bc of black immigrants are getting them”
I'm not sure how much more blatant it can get that these guys are looting the federal government and then pointing over there and saying "look what THOSE BLACK PEOPLE ARE GETTING AWAY WITH!!!" bsky.app/profile/atru...
I used to teach argumentation in college writing (typically using Aristotle’s Rhetoric) and never once did I encourage lying. In fact discouraged it as part of establishing good character! If rhetoric is not “manipulation” idk what is.
I think the question of lying versus manipulating in the context of politics is interesting. In particular, what seems to have collapsed our country is the elimination of the stigma against LYING, specifically. And not just because it helps manipulate - often everyone seems to know it’s a lie!
Also breaking: my conservative uncle told my wife that the gender indoctrination students are getting in schools is “just as bad” as school shootings
BREAKING: my conservative republican nebraskan dad has seen the tommy/el-sayed video and says he abdul “handled that so intelligently” and now believes “it wouldn’t be a bad thing if he won.”
Number 1 would be a good thing.
Calls for expanding #SCOTUS are entirely (and increasingly) understandable. But as today's "One First" explains, there are at least four difficult questions that those who support expansion should have to answer—especially as compared to other possible reforms: www.stevevladeck.com/p/bonus-257-...
Definitely seems like there are two conversations happening that are running alongside each other and (I’d argue) being weirdly treated as one: 1.) does AI have *whatever thing* that makes it capable of being tortured, which is diff than 2.) the weird behavior of “torturing” AI as a proxy
It doesn’t really matter so much if the AI actually lacks a mind, at least in terms of what it tells you about the person engaging in sadism. They’re absolutely IMAGINING it does, so they can derive pleasure from inflicting pain on it. Otherwise they’re literally just wasting time on nothing.
