Got a second very sketchy mailer attacking Klob from the left. Something tells me Citizens for Public Safety Transparency LLC, whose address is a warehouse in rural MN and has no business filing in the state, are not making these arguments in good faith

I was on the literal last ride of the season so save this recommendation for next year: the Minneapolis Water Taxi boat tour is a delight.

The whisper quiet electric motor made it so pleasant, and it was my first time on the river above St. Anthony!

South Minneapolis! I'm helping out with a plant sale fundraiser for Tamales y Bicicletas tomorrow 10-2 at the Toolbox Collective! Come help me make space for more plants by buying some of mine

On Friday, three members of the Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET) released a letter expressing concern about a pattern of unsustainable and unaccountable spending within the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD).

On January 14, CBP agents pulled into a UMN parking lot and blocked the intersection in front of the Humphrey School, but UMN continued to claim there was no ICE activity on campus. With today's conference in this building, let's not forget the U's dangerously muddy comms during that time

On the first day of classes, the University of Minnesota surprise-launched a slightly different maroon-and-gold color scheme and in the process managed to fuck up the logo on umn.edu.

Flock gets all the attention, but Minneapolis PD uses a different vendor of license plate reader cameras (Insight LPR). They are usually mounted on stoplight mast arms and they are installed at 30 intersections around the city. As of late last year I added them all to deflock.me

The traffic safety cameras the city is piloting for automated enforcement look different. They have radar sensors and I do not believe they store license plate data unless they've violated traffic laws #knowYourTrafficCameras

I had the UMN anniversary apple crisp ice cream yesterday not realizing it was just released this week. It's the best UMN ice cream flavor I've tried. Get it at Coffman or in St Paul (under $3 for a generous scoop)! cfans.umn.edu/175-ice-crea...

I love joking about the Mandela effect as much as anyone but I wish it were named after something more trivial than white people insisting they're not wrong on basic biographical facts about a famous black world leader

My museum colleagues found a pile of old slide carousels with educational plant photos and just got them professionally scanned. They look so damn good this might be the thing that gets me into film photography

I take solace in the knowledge that even though it may seem weird and inequitable to me, this is the most efficient means of allocating capital that humanity has yet devised

This piece crystallized my discomfort with the U's AI stance. The language about not replacing human thought and using it deliberately papers over their assumption that higher AI literacy means using it more. They leave no room for avoiding AI as a valid/rational choice hr.umn.edu/supervising/...

Marx: The term "preroll" disgusts me. It reifies the alienation of labor as the essence of the commodity, completely neglecting the use-value and its often subversive historical context Me: Do you wanna hit this joint or not man

The violence in Belfast is a reminder of something I don’t want to take for granted: The fascists here hoped the response to the depredations of ICE would be similar, with people turning in or attacking their neighbors. That it was the very opposite is worth remembering in this season of despair

You know what's crazy? This guy sells almost everywhere in the US EXCEPT MINNESOTA. Minnesota's public health dept is famous in the food safety world for being #1 at tracking down the source of outbreaks- way faster than any other state. What an interesting coincidence!

One benefit of doing data work for a science museum is sometimes you happen upon a cute photo of a turtle and you can keep the lil guy up on your second monitor for encouragement

Sencer-Mura says Waymo acknowledges it's unclear if they can legally operate driverless cars in MN under current law. They could try to move forward before legislature can be enacted and let the courts rule but it would be a risky business move

1/5 🧵 I'm raising $1400 for my friend C's rent: venmo.com/u/meshmpls I can't do her story justice here; over the years she's fallen through the gaps of the social safety net over and over. Her health conditions have kept her out of the workforce for a while,

Here I invite you to be a micro-heretic. To bring small shame on your people. Tell me about a highly praised thing in your hometown/area that all locals LOVE except YOU. I’m from the Seattle area. Taco Time is nothing special. Bland. Not horrible but not worth going out of your way. Now you go!

The day after getting a nice tour of the hi lake murals with city art staff, I bike under the overpass twice barely noticing the art. because whenever I go thru here, I am always so focused on just getting the hell out of the place with all the cars going everywhere to perceive much else

It's such an incredible mural and it bums me out that it's dressing up a blight of infrastructure that the state just recommitted to keeping there for decades
