You'll know this is true when all you see is people posting "welp, guess we should go" for weeks on end and replies offering hot dish or likes in case they're hungry.

tired: bluesky is dying wired: bluesky is slowly turning into a minnesota-only social media network. Soon it will become another local curiosity like saying "parking ramp" instead of "parking garage" and playing duck duck gray duck

25 years ago today, George W. Bush signed the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force into law. Barbara Lee was the only member of Congress to vote against it, warning it would be a blank check for forever wars. History has proven her lonely and courageous vote right.

This headline makes it sound like a 76 year old dude put his head down and ran full-force into a pickup truck.

This very evening, in Columbia Heights, HSI and local police kidnapped another of our neighbors. They were all remarkably relaxed. Over the winter, they were rampaging; now they are quiet and confident. We could not stop them. 19/x

The material traces of the occupation are still everywhere. I was just thinking about how I still put a whistle in my pocket whenever I leave the house, and how @keithpille.bsky.social predicted how intense it will be when we all find whistles in our winter coats 18/x

Several known issues: - The Fair doesn't release a list of artists or the titles of the art, so I used an LLM to suggest descriptions and names. I fixed some errors, but I'm sure I didn't find them all. - 350 wasn't enough images, so the 3D stuff is fuzzy

- I didn't get great photos of all the art, so if you have photos of your favorites please let me know DM/reply here or send me a ticket on Github with feedback.

I ended up on Bitwarden. The key discovery (shout out @darthbluesky.bsky.social) is that you should install the new password manager app on your phone and get it all setup, then use the credential transfer process that 1Password supports because then your Passkeys etc. are transferred.

Transit has always been the best way to get to the Minnesota State Fair! From 1891 to 1952 a complex streetcar network ran in and out of the fairgrounds bringing thousands of visitors every day. You can still see the historic arch that trolleys would pass under.

Lots of people are learning about the complexities of digital map viewpoint data. Should I point them to the discussion about how OSM decided to represent this in their tagging schema too?

The renaming of this lake is so dumb and petty and should not be the focus of the news right now but … I cannot overstate enough just how sad and pathetic this update is for Google

Saw some migrating birds in the morning on the weather radar. They look like these arcs:

Birds' fall migration is picking up. Here's the forecast for tonight. Note the precipitation scale on right: birds can sense and avoid storms. Also on right, a scale indicating migration intensity. 178M #birds expected to fly tonight.

Minnesota mentioned!

Flock takes their privacy very seriously. But the ethical gray area in surveillance technology works both ways. Under no circumstances should elected officials or public servants enjoy an expectation of privacy when spending tax dollars to attend a surveillance lobbying event.

The Brewers are up 22-0 over Seattle, and one of those runs came because Julio Rodríguez caught the second out and threw it into the stands thinking it was the third.

I truly wish city leaders and residents would understand the we have a housing crisis. Raiding camps won't solve that. But we also have a proud history of houselessness. Our city was founded by an encampment. Places like Swede Hollow were shantytowns for most of our history--more than a century.

This is one of the best articulations I've seen from a politician about addressing homelessness humanely at the local level. This is key! Take note Minneapolis!

I wanted to share a bit about my reflections on yesterday’s public hearing, the conversations I’ve had the opportunity to have over the last two weeks, and where I think we go from here. medium.com/@molly_17258...
