"The most maddening thing about life is also the most beautiful: its indeterminacy. The course of our lives, the fate of our species, the future of the universe: all undecided. But because possibility is the hardest thing to bear,

we sedate ourselves with certainty — even though we know that liminality is the most generative place, that to believe is to doubt, that we are most creative when we attempt what is not certain." - Maria Popova and The Marginalian her one-woman labor of love

"These people called themselves 'realists' because they knew—or wish to know—no other reality other than that of the objects to be owned and used. They were such realists that, while they had no trouble finding a unique name for every automobile, they could describe “love”—a feeling that

gives rise to a vast array of emotions—with only a single word; for their creativity in matters of the heart was limited to that one word alone." - #ErichFromm, The Forgotten Language: An Introduction to the Understanding of Dreams, Fairy Tales, and Myths #Love #Myth #Dreams #Books #Language

authority which gives meaning to life except man himself. Man represses the irrational passions of destructiveness, hate, envy, revenge; worships power, money, sovereign state, the nation; while he pays lip service to the teachings of the great spiritual leaders of the human race, those of Buddha,

prophets, Socrates, Jesus, Mohammed-he has transformed these teachings into a jungle of superstition and idol-worship. How can mankind save itself from destroying itself by this discrepancy between intellectual-technical over-maturity and emotional backwardness?" - Erich Fromm (Escape from Freedom)

"It becomes ever increasingly clear to many students of man and of the contemporary scene that the crucial difficulty with which we are confronted lies in the fact that the development of man's intellectual capacities has far outstripped the development of his emotions. Man's brain lives in the

20th century; the heart of most men lives still in the Stone Age. The majority of men have not yet acquired the maturity to be independent, to be rational, to be objective. They need myths and idols to endure the fact that man is all by himself, that there is no

"Why does the mind crave superstition! It's because superstition is a psychological apparatus for self-preservation. & it appears to us as truth because the only truth our brain is concerned with is the one that takes away our anxiety and aids in our survival,

even if that truth happens to be just another lie our brain cooks up to maintain internal order. However, neurologically speaking, there is no such thing as a mind without superstition. Your belief that you have no superstition, is just another superstition.

So, it's not about developing a mind without superstition, which is impossible, rather it is about being aware of the superstitions as much as possible, and reject those that are particularly harmful, for the self and society." - Abhijit Naskar, Divane Dynamite: Only truth in the cosmos is love

"The Beats, like their successors in the Sixties, have often been described as 'idealists'. But fantasies of total gratification are not the product of idealism. They arise from a narcissism that, finding the world unequal to its desires, retreats into a realm of heedless self-absorption. (1/2)

Modesty, convention, and self-restraint then appear as the enemies rather than as the allies of humanity. In this sense, the Beat generation marks a step away from civilization." - Roger Kimball, The Long March: How the Cultural Revolution of the 1960s Changed America

"As to those who ask merely to be loved, who seek only their own reflection in the mirror, no love however great, will ever satisfy them. In a world so hungry for love it is no wonder that men and women are blinded....

......by the glamour and glitter of their own reflected egos. No wonder that the revolver shot is the last summons. No wonder that the grinding wheels of the subway express, though they cut the body to pieces, fail to precipitate the elixir of love." - Henry Miller, Sexus The Rosy Crucifixion

"Freedom & love together. Love is not a reaction. If I love you because you love me, that is mere trade, to be bought in the market; it is not love. To love is not to ask anything in return, not even to feel that you are giving something- it is only such love that can know freedom.” J. Krishnamurti

"This question of value is where the central paradox of creativity resides, because our values are largely inherited conceptual spaces, making it difficult to assess or even recognize the value of a transformative idea whose originality overflows and overwhelms the conceptual space." - Maria Popova

“Love isn't something natural. Rather it requires discipline, concentration, patience, faith, and the overcoming of narcissism. It isn't a feeling, it is a practice.” - Erich Fromm, The Art of Loving

“You think that because you understand “one” that you must therefore understand “two” because one and one make two. But you forget that you must also understand “and.” Donella H. Meadows, Thinking in Systems: A Primer

"However, System 2 is demanding. It consumes mental energy and can be fatiguing, especially when you are already tired, distracted, or emotionally overwhelmed. That is why people are more prone to errors, biases, and snap judgments when they are stressed or exhausted. (1/3)

Engaging System 2 requires conscious effort, and the brain, always seeking efficiency, often prefers to let System 1 handle things unless absolutely necessary." - Alex Caldwell, The Real-World Blueprint to Critical Thinking (2/3)

We are being weaponised against each other by design. The battlefield? The gap between Relative Truth and Ultimate Truth. Politicians, billionaire media owners, and Gen-AI bot farms don’t want you to see the difference. Here is how they use philosophy to control you.

“We often think of peace as the absence of war, that if powerful countries would reduce their weapon arsenals, we could have peace. But if we look deeply into the weapons, we see our own minds- our own prejudices, fears and ignorance. Even if we transport all the bombs to the moon, the roots (1/3)

of war and the roots of bombs are still there, in our hearts and minds, and sooner or later we will make new bombs. To work for peace is to uproot war from ourselves and from the hearts of men and women. (2/3)

To prepare for war, to give millions of men and women the opportunity to practice killing day and night in their hearts, is to plant millions of seeds of violence, anger, frustration, and fear that will be passed on for generations to come. ” - Thich Nhat Hanh, Living Buddha, Living Christ (3/3)

"No government has the right to decide on the truth of scientific principles, nor to prescribe in any way the character of the questions investigated. Neither may a government determine the aesthetic value of artistic creations, nor limit the forms of literacy or artistic expression.

Nor should it pronounce on the validity of economic, historic, religious, or philosophical doctrines. Instead it has a duty to its citizens to maintain the freedom, to let those citizens contribute to the further adventure and the development of the human race." - Richard P. Feynman
