The Milton Line was the fourth GO Transit rail corridor, after the original Lakeshore line in 1967, Georgetown in 1974 and Richmond Hill in 1978. The route was originally opened by the Credit Valley Railway in 1879. It is the only GO train line to operate mostly on CP tracks.

Oct 26, 1981: GO Transit begins rail service between Milton and Toronto Union Station with three weekday-only rush hour round trips. Intermediate stops were at Meadowvale, Streetsville, Erindale, Cooksville, Dixie and Kipling, where riders could transfer to the TTC subway.

Caron continues to hold with just under half of polls reporting. Goller still leads in Ward 2, along with Fry, but it's a horse race with Barber, Bowman and Cox in the running.

Also, holy elections Batman. Within the span of two months, elections for: * 3 Ontario provincial ridings * Quebec assembly * BC municipalities and province * Alberta referendum * Ontario municipalities * Manitoba municipalities * US midterms Can we have a break afterwards?

NEW from me: Last year, Mark Carney set a goal to double Canada's non-US exports by 2035. Today, he's already halfway there In response to Trump's tariffs & threats, Canadian businesses, consumers, & even tourists are taking difficult steps to decouple from the US🧵 www.apricitas.io/p/how-canada...

How long before Waymo screws up the Toronto streetcars?

John Berry@aniccia.bsky.social

Waymo blocked the N-Judah again, at/in the: Carl & Cole Station, Cole Valley, San Francisco Waymo did it a few blocks down Carl St last month, at least once more since, and many other times over years. ~100 yr old Sunset tunnel behind the train and latest Waymo robot ahead. OP: tiktok.anuayyala

I had a really fun #bcpoli chat with a friend who lives in Squamish. David Eby's snap election is no paying off, with the BC Conservatives looking at 72% chance of winning a majority (per 338 Canada). Watching from Ontario, a couple thoughts.

Also imagine being a prospective BC Conservative Leadership candidate. You're now going to be applying for the premiership, and party members are going to be the ones deciding. Unless the party decides to make Doerkson permanent leader (if that's legal). Crazy stuff.

The TCR was formed by the City of Toronto to serve newly annexed areas that the private operator “Toronto Railway Company” refused to serve. A TCR car is preserved at the Halton County Radial Railway.

"The diplomats said the objections center on the wording of 'associate membership,' not the broader goal of closer ties." Well, that's fine.

POLITICO Europe@politico.eu

Germany, France and at least six other EU countries are pushing against “associate membership” as the name for closer EU ties with Canada, six diplomats involved in the negotiations said.

Selection of non-alcoholic beers. A lot of room for bars, restaurants and corner stores to expand their menu offerings, but the sheer selection from local and national breweries is great.

Watching Toronto's industrial Portlands get turned into a giant public park with the now-not-as-polluted Don River running through the middle of it. I took pictures of giant Oil tanks on Cherry St 25 years ago, now its a greenspace! I never pictured this happening at the time.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Calling an early election while the Official Opposition is in the midst of a leadership race may not technically be against the rules, but not doing that is an unofficial Westminister political courtesy. Eby's move feels like "The world is crazy, we're going to abandon courtesy." BC Citizens:

It's an interesting signal across the country. If you're going to break social political traditions of Canada's version of Westminister government, people will see it for the shitty move it is and, if the Official Opposition is a good enough alternative, the people will give it a chance.
