Supporting the death penalty means both believing that the justice system is perfect at identifying the guilty and the various state governments are capable of complex medical procedures carried out by underpaid government employees. It should be bipartisan that both of these are ridiculous

Liliana Segura@lilianasegura.bsky.social

The tortuous, botched execution of Christa Pike is truly horrifying. And while it feels unique in some ways, in reality it is also only the latest in a history of botched executions going back years — YEARS — in numerous states. Please know: this is the reality of the death penalty in this country.

I hate that our politics have become this Machiavellian, but it’s absolutely true. Democrats have become the party of all bark and no bite. That has to change and change fast

Micah@rincewind.run

I understand that they have a big money cannon and you are afraid of it but the best way to neutralize it at this point is not to play nice but to make them afraid instead they are afraid of pissing off Republicans but not of pissing off Democrats, and that is not sustainable

One way you could respond: "Are you kidding me? You have an incredibly powerful position as a member of the elite media to inform Americans and set the terms of debate. THIS is what you think is important? Not the war, the economy, the climate crisis, but Hasan Piker? What is wrong with you?"

I can hear @edzitron.com screaming from here “These systems are not like our PCs, not like our phones,” Huang told CNBC’s Becky Quick. “These are revenue-generating assets now. They’re productive, they’re long-lived, they’re fungible, they’re flexible.” www.cnbc.com/2026/08/11/w...

cnbc.comWall Street just endorsed Jensen Huang's 'big concept' for AI. What now?The first three-plus years of the AI build-out have been funded by record amounts of equity and debt issued by leading tech companies. Nvidia has a new idea.

So we all agree he’s a 2028 front runner, right? Not saying he gets the nom, but he definitely launches his exploratory committee after the midterms and spends at least some cycles at the top

As I've been saying, impeachment and removal will ultimately have to happen, and enough Republicans will ultimately be forced to support it. But if Democrats fear talking about it now, they will make the path more difficult, delay the ultimate outcome, and prolong the damage.

Second (and last) #SCOTUS ruling is the big one, Louisiana v. Callais. For a 6-3 majority (Rs v. Ds), Justice Alito purports to narrow the ability of states to draw majority-minority districts as a remedy for race-based vote dilution, but, per Kagan's dissent, comes pretty close to gutting the VRA:

Dems should introduce legislation now defunding ICE and CBP operations in Minnesota, so they have to leave the state. One sentence bill. Demand an immediate vote. Maybe refuse to vote for cloture on any funding bills (or other bills) until a vote. Make the GOP Congress break w/ Trump or own it all.

If anyone expects anything to change at this point, it’s not going to happen without changes across the board and that includes Chuck Schumer. We have real Democrats in the Senate. They have the power to change leadership at any time, and that needs to happen immediately.

Just once I'd like to see Schumer or Jeffries angry. Authentically angry. No elegance or solutions are necessary, but purely reactive or instinctive. Some indication that they feel -- that they are capable of feeling -- what we are feeling.
