There are two new crisis in a software world. 1. We, software developers, are not capable enough for our jobs/tasks because we've avoided to face the true difficulties. 2. The moral/morale of software developers goes down because we are now treated as a replaceable resource.

I thought Ruby was nice for working with binary. Go just blew my mind letting read bytes right into a struct. Reading a PSX memory card has never been easier.

This a neat little game. Pico8 still the best.

Is Undead Line: 1) a 1-900 hotline where you pay by the minute to talk to hunks from beyond the grave 2) the date by which it's okay if you're not done with the assignment yet 3) a line of dialogue that still (erroneously) affects the continuity even though it got cut ?

I think this might've been a question I posed on twitter a while back but may as well ask here: Do you have physical copies of your top 5 favorite video games?

Loving how import maps removed the need for JS package managers, but not enjoying the thought of adding one for linting & formatting. Here is biome-ruby, a Ruby wrapper for the Biome CLI. Making it simple to include in your project across platforms github.com/michebble/bi...

It was worth waking up early to join @kaspth.com's walkthrough/overview of Oaken. I'll be spending sometime this week checking out if it's the right choice for my current team. Seems like a good fit though.

Come join our free gem walkthrough next Tuesday 👋 You'll see a new take on fixtures + factories + seeds, and gain a new perspective on your dev and test data. It's live over Zoom, so you can ask questions too. lu.ma/e9927y5m

I've been using Git since it was invented and "yours" and "theirs" might as well be "hnunch" and "grwinf" for all they make sense to me as names for "the branch I'm rebasing main" and "the I'm rebasing *onto*". I have to look at the contents every. single. time. to figure out which one means which.

Reminder to prep/check/restock your emergency bag as needed! We neglected ours last year and spent all of this afternoon eating expired foodstuffs and topping up external batteries

These here are four absolute bangers for the Sega Master. I could not imagine my childhood without experiencing these. Bright, colourful, and fun platformers. Each has it's own little twist to keep you coming back for more.

I am trying to write again for my software development blog. I intend to write a series of semi-practical notes on code-as-text perception, the topic I have been thinking about for years now. Less Ruby-centric, and probably more honest and humane. We'll see. zverok.space/blog/2025-06...

zverok.spaceNotes on code, text, and war. Week 1: Believing in textWriting texts is the most useful and fruitful metaphor for software development. Intro to a series of posts on theoretical and practical implications of it. And something about war.

This 35-year-old CVG April Fool was pretty cool! Cobbled together using crappy old bits of tech, this amazing device allegedly plugged into the back of an Amiga and enabled it to play Mega Drive carts. We got calls from distributors. Readers hopes were dashed. We had some lolz.

Brand posts support video on YouTube. Enables advertising. Earns money while user get support. My waiting through ads to figure out how to descale my coffee machine earns them money. Is this late stage capitalism?
