latest thing driving me crazy about the current round of vote scolding is that even if given benefit of the doubt that these dems aren't personally transphobic, they're just getting votes, people are still being asked to put faith in the bravery of cowards kind of a big flaw there, the cowardice

From NY Times article on newly-reopened Goya Museum in Spain: If I already had plenty of reason to dislike "immersive" art experiences, looks like for this projected image they inexplicably tweaked the colors in Goya's famed "Third of May" painting. Why..?? Art museums get ever closer to Disneyland

If you strip away unsafe bike lanes - so called Class II (Unprotected) and Class III (Shared Lanes) - you aren 't left with much. You quickly see how full of gaps the network is, and how much it relies on unsafe "shared" street designs that don't provide safety

looked at in longer perspective, it's striking how much this resembles the premodern system of exclusion, rents, and personalist connections, which was--and this part's important--radically worse than the modern system of impersonal rules and general taxation

Boston’s chief planner is a true believer in the San Francisco model, in which you make it impossible to profitably build apartments by-right so developers are forced into a politicized discretionary negotiation with the city, which relaxes the rules in exchange for below-market units.

I see some people voting in NYC No on ballot proposal #3. Misguidedly Just reminding everyone it includes several good proposals. They are unrelated and that’s bad, but that’s a process issue and not a policy issue. The only substantive opponents on any of these points are career NIMBYs

I have a very funny audience that I can never make completely happy, but such is life for queer Christian clergy, I suppose - especially when you write about a mostly secular topic. Anyway, I wrote about what being queer and cycling have in common, inspired by the guy who called me a bitch earlier

Nobody asked any Palestinians what they think, because our politicians and media outlets very plainly do not regard Palestinians as people. They would not have behaved the way they have for many years now, if they view Palestinians as proper human beings with rights, rather than as orcs or zombies.

Democrats are still stuck in "workforce readiness" and the transactional job training paradigm of the neoliberal university. The Republican Party, conversely, as it's moved toward fascism and authoritarianism, has rediscovered that the things we believe about our country and its people matter.

Do Democrats not see that the effort to build civic centers using taxpayer dollars and private funding at public universities is an effort to shape future voting preferences against them? Why aren’t rich Democrats counter the Right and funding normal humanities departments?

have been telling friends abt the bike lane bullshit in toronto and for the casual observer we have to back all the way up like "right so the guy who smoked crack is dead but he had a brother"

oh sweet i think i can counter protest now

The folks who were going to protest the Bergen St. bike boulevard and bus redesign on Thursday are now doing it on Saturday morning. The white women organizing this have coopted BLM imagery, and they've dropped the fact that they're protesting against "fast buses" from some versions of the flyer.

honestly crazy to me that EA didn't try to do a "downsizing" slow death thing and be able to control the situation so bioware wouldn't be posting on social media like that... i guess they really dont expect consequences
