Please watch Monday 8.30 ABC #4Corners: Christian Brothers Inc. Deep dive into Catholic order adopting litigation strategies more akin to a corporation than a religious body. Did expecting survivors to line up like creditors in a corporate collapse happen in a vacuum? I went to Ireland to find out.

Remember the story we at #4Corners did about Channel 7, 2 years ago? About soul-crushing culture of sexism & exploitation, particularly of young women? Their internal review has vindicated our reporting, despite legal threats at the time (which went nowhere). Report: www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

abc.net.auSecret review into Seven West Media reveals 'diabolical' culture problemsA bombshell review of Seven West Media in 2024 has been told of a "diabolical" corporate culture, with allegations sexism, bullying and harassment were rife and "sacred cow" executives favoured by the...

Louise Milligan, you are a champion! Thank you for making this program available worldwide. It is the clearest, most comprehensive and powerful telling of "the evil that men do" in protecting wealth and status by perpetuating horrendous suffering.

@milliganreports.bsky.social has done a brilliant job (as always) with this #4corners report: she is explaining complicated issues in understandable ways. I can’t even imagine the legal scrutiny her reporting, as is being broadcast right now, had to survive 😬🤯😱 Ms Milligan is a national treasure.

BREAKING: Edmund Rice Education Australia tells #4Corners it’s considering breaking away from the Christian Brothers, doesn’t recall being told of true financial position & was asked to help pay for ageing Brothers without disclosure they fund 8 convicted paedophiles. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-09...

I've little doubt this will be another strong #4corners episode that yet again, should bring about some change.

Shellybanks. Stunning. @milliganreports.bsky.social you have firmly established yourself as a master story teller. And together with the incredible performance of Genevieve O'Reilly bringing every page to living colour, you have created an exquisite piece of art. I hope there will be a third book.

How incredibly noble of Sean Dorney to show the reality of being an older person with motor neurone disease on #4Corners tonight. Brilliant reporter back in the day. Helping Anne Connolly do her important work on aged care now. #journalism

Question for the Christian Brothers: Exactly how much property did they transfer without monetary consideration (ie, for free) to EREA, half of which of its billion dollars in revenue comes from taxpayers? A pertinent question, given EREA refuses to give the brothers enough funds for compensation.

All of this sheds significant light on this statement tonight from the Christian Brothers that victims/survivors are their highest priority, given they are seeking an urgent stay on all current proceedings by victims of child abuse against them because of their terrible financial situation.

#LAW THREAD: Breaking: 1. Lawyers for the Christian Brothers told legal reps of clergy abuse survivors today they’re facing liquidation and will run out of funds by September this year after paying out $66 million last year paying victims and survivors. So they’re seeking a creditors’ scheme. BUT…

2. EREA, The #Catholic organisation which took over all Christian Brothers schools in 2007 (and to which the Brothers transferred assets), has revenue of $1 BILLION. The Brothers have asked EREA & the Catholic Church for money to help pay abuse claims, but says sufficient money was not provided.

3. The lawyers for the Christian Brothers noted that their entity was separate from the Catholic Church and EREA. Note: EREA became controversial after my 4 Corners story on St Kevin’s College and was found wanting by the Victorian schools safety regulator. St Kevin’s ultimately broke away from it.

We at 4 Corners are very proud that last night we won the Walkley Awards' Women’s Leadership in Media Prize for our story, Scarred, on #endometriosis surgeon Simon Gordon. We thank all the patients and doctors who spoke up to help us tell this awful history and make change. Women deserve better. 💪

THREAD: 1. Some years ago women academics contacted me unsolicited on Twitter (which I no longer use) about an academic in Melbourne. They’d made complaints to a faculty head about the man’s targeted, obsessive bullying of women colleagues, including First Nations women. The university kept him on.

I wasn’t in a position to investigate it as I was deep in another story, but the women were distressed. The harassment they alleged had a needling, persistent, odd quality. The man holds himself out to be a top expert. I haven’t worked on this story, but have seen some evidence of his fixations.

Please don’t reply to this about his identity as I want to protect the women. But I know there are many academics on here & I’m curious to hear via direct message if you know who I’m referring to, to know if this behaviour has continued at the #university. I feel queasy every time I see him quoted.

Thanks to the beautiful people of Williamstown who came to Willy Lit writers’ festival today to hear me talk to ABC colleague Sarah L’Estrange about Shellybanks, which sold out at the festival today. So grateful for the support of my fiction. Love these community events & the people I meet at them.

That feeling when an idiot troll sends email with a fake name but it’s a gift because the name’s so funny, it’s perfect for an annoying character (a shallow frenemy) in the novel you’re writing. Also, is there a German word for a hateful public figure making a major fashion faux pas? Surely so?

ThREAD on politics, journalism, “witches” and #JacintaAllan: 1/ 15 years ago an Opposition leader stood in front of a “ditch the witch” placard about then-PM, Julia Gillard. A shock jock who openly championed that Opposition leader said Ms Gillard ought to be put in a chaff bag and sent out to sea.

5/ Ms Allan’s politics or policies and whatever legitimate criticism or otherwise there might be of her performance as Premier are one thing. Politics is a robust business, politicians know that, to some extent, they are fair game. The same went for Julia Gillard.

6/ But reheating a deeply misogynistic trope about a woman leader in politics? Are we seriously going there in 2026? Rampant sexism has no place in political discourse about female politicians of any persuasion. Surely if there are arguments against Ms Allan’s performance, they speak for themselves?

3/ Now, this weekend, we have a tabloid running a story which platforms “Ditch the Witch” billboards, but this time in relation to Victorian premier, Jacinta Allan. It features these pictures of Ms Allan, depicted as a witch, along with leadership speculation.

4/ While it deems the billboards “controversial”, it says “Labor MPs and factional figures are openly discussing a potential leadership change ahead of November’s state election amid fears of an electoral wipe out”. It says leadership speculation has “plagued the Premier” for a year.

2/ We’ve looked back in the context of Gillard’s later misogyny speech, horrified at how this seemed remotely acceptable. Last year I saw the play, Julia. At the end, all around, women were weeping. Not about politics, but sexism, which every woman experiences. Women are so tired of this. So angry.

ICYMI last night’s #4Corners on poor behaviour by #police, it’s well worth a watch. I’ve worked with many excellent and under-appreciated police over decades, but it’s vital they’re held to the highest standard and this story by my colleagues Dylan Welch and Elise Potaka is powerful and disturbing.

Very proud our #4Corners story, Scarred, on #endometriosis surgeon #SimonGordon is shortlisted for the The Walkey’s Women’s Leadership in Journalism prize. Thanks so much to the former patients & medical professionals who bravely stood up for women, to expose a terrible history & make change. ❤️💪
