We're getting on with the job on the energy transition.  Australia is becoming a battery superpower and we're seeing the direct benefits of this in the price of wholesale electricity, with confirmation today that Australia is experiencing some of the lowest wholesale energy prices in the world

NEW BRIGHT SPOTS: Even on 100% gas power, heat pumps cut emissions by ~48% and EVs by about half. The authors of an “electrification doesn’t cut emissions” paper made a series of compounding mistakes and used misleading assumptions. Here's why. janrosenow.substack.com/p/heat-pumps...

janrosenow.substack.comHeat pumps and EVs cut emissions, even on a gas-only gridA widely reported paper claimed heat pumps and EVs deliver no carbon savings until the grid is clean. Here's why it's wrong.

If you want to cut energy bills then put batteries into homes to download cheap overnight energy and use it at expensive peak times. Switching the time of use would also massively and rapidly cut the need to use gas. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Britain has been exposed to volatile international energy markets for far too long. That is why Labour is establishing a new Energy Wealth Fund which will reinvest tax revenues from North Sea oil and gas into renewable projects to support the clean energy transition and bring bills down for good.

The problem is not really Jackdaw, which is pretty small. The problem is the UK's plan to transition away from fossil fuels is still not ambitious and detailed enough. The problem is if Rosebank follows. The problem is if every country develops one last fossil fuel project we're all screwed.

We definitely need cooling systems but air-to-air heatpump/coolers are much more efficient because they force the air. Cooled radiators (keeping the wet system) less efficient especially as radiators are placed low and hot air rises so no convection

Lib Dem leader Ed Davey says Conservatives and Reform's energy strategy "is to tie us ever more tightly to volatile gas prices, believing against all historical evidence that gas prices won't just go lower sometime in the future, but stay low in the future"

Putin's bombs are killing Ukrainian civilians, and Donald Trump is funding them by buying Russian diesel. The UK must stand up and call this what it is: another Trump betrayal of the Ukrainian people and European security.

Great to see the Government exploring the return of international rail services to Ashford. This is something I’ve long pushed for. It would be a real boost for Medway and Kent, making it easier to travel to Europe and bringing new opportunities for local businesses. buff.ly/IswaEC8

In Lord Keynes' 1930 essay on the economic problems of our grandchildren, he makes clear that a billionaires tax will eventually (as in right now) become essential to maintaining and safeguarding democracy because without it the descent into plutocracy will be stark and steep.

Ellie Chowns is absolutely right. Her wing of the Green Party must win. There is clearly a battle for the soul of the Greens. England and Wales needs a party that’s “Green” because it cares about nature and climate action, not one that’s “Green” became it is full of Tankie useful idiots of Hamas.
