Foreigners in Germany like me usually can't vote on local issues (bike lanes!): but the Munich Migrants Advisory Board is trying to expand its mandate beyond just immigrant-specific stuff. I wrote it up with a brief evaluation of all the lists - a tiny Wahl-o-mat. Vote! cory.de/migrationsbe...

Pick up this little cutie at the Munich Fotobörse today. Shutter says Voigtländer but I’m somewhat doubtful that it’s a Voigtländer camera. In any event, a bit different due to its petite size. I decided a mouse was better than a banana for scale ;)

I love shopping on Amazon and that moment when I hit Pay Now for the item I found, but cheaper, on another site.

I’ve been ordered to change my profile pic because it was AI generated. Well fair enough if guess. Back when I joined Bluesky, AI was just a bit of a curiosity. It’s weird how I bumble into offending people. I’m not changing my banner just yet, it’s a real photo that I took myself. Trust.

Overhauling a Sturmey Archer SRF5 hub from 2007/08. A previous service appears to have smothered the gear assembly in thick grease, bogging down its delicate internals. Undoing that damage has been painstaking but fascinating. Kudos for still supplying the parts. #SturmeyArcher #BikeRepair

I cannot get this starving/dead/happy dog AI slop out of my timeline. I have blocked so many accounts and used “show less like this” but Bluesky is convinced I hunger for it.

I sometimes wonder what my brain is up to when I'm typing. I think a lot of the time it gets bored with my fingers taking so long and so starts to troll them.

It's Lent - but instead of fun we’ll give up exhaust fumes! In keeping with the motto "CO2 fasting" we will make the road our bike path on Friday. 🚲🫶 🌞The sun should be visible, so grab your bikes and show Munich what the traffic turnaround looks like!

Can any NZ IT professionals recommend an NZ DNS registrar? I was formerly with an NZ registrar but they were so bad I switched 10 years ago to an EU registrar. I expect things are a bit different now. I've been looking at the dnc.org.nz comparison page but I don't know any of these companies.

The cancellation of Kimmel I have to say came as quite a shock not just because of the banal and specious reasons, but because the networks are falling quickly in line with a regime. The fall of democracy enabled by a series of business decisions.

When freedom is under fire you can count on me to ramble and mutter incoherently.

I’ve always wanted a Brompton and had no idea the company was around so long. I’ve filled that hole in my life with Moulton bikes which are not actually folding bikes. The only thing I’ve folded on my Moultons is bones.

Thanks to a design that remains largely unchanged in 50 years, even vintage examples of the original iconic folding bike can be made fit for the 21st century. www.wired.com/story/a-brom...

Barely an hour ago, Palestinian journalist Anas Al-Sharif warned us all: “If this madness doesn’t end, Gaza will be reduced to ruins, its people’s voices silenced, their faces erased — and history will remember you as silent witnesses to a genocide you chose not to stop.” Israel just killed him.

Tama Potaka helped throw whānau onto the street then shrugs it off like it’s not his doing. You didn’t just cut emergency housing. You condemned people to sleep in cars, alleys, and shopfronts. This is what state violence looks like, against the vulnerable. #nzpol #HousingCrisis #ManaakiWhānau

Automatic skeets of the day's shows will start tomorrow. It might be a lumpy start, so please bear with us if a few mangled or missing skeets happen! On average this account will generate 2 skeets (plus possible sub-comments) a day.

I wonder whether the people who hate on Substack have taken the time there to read (or even find) the content written by journalists and commentators who write well informed content about topics those haters care about.

The Govt cutting $1 billion from the Budget’s operating allowance, framing it as “responsible” & “essential spending only.” Austerity always hits Māori and working-class communities hardest Would love to hear your whakaaro. What do you think, whānau? #NZpol

Yesterday I was told that even though my kōtiro now qualifies for NASC, we would not be able to access any supports because the funding body has completely run out of cash. I needed to do something productive instead of spiral so I wrote. kahukurascout.substack.com/p/at-least-o...

Disability is not the Olympics. Please don't ever use who I am, my disabilities, and what I have "overcome" to disqualify them from having their needs met. All people with disabilities are different. Speaking for myself, I don't ever want someone to use me to invalidate someone else.

George Lowe has passed away. Lowe was the voice of Space Ghost in countless projects starting with 1994's Space Ghost Coast To Coast. He carries these two promos for C2C's fifth season, as a narcissistic host musing on the perils of celebrity. Original by MoviesCool93 - youtu.be/viwc-GggE6c?...

If you block Bluesky followers for the sin of offering a counter or more nuanced opinion then you’re only interested in conformational bias. Plus you’re going to lose impressions and engagement, but whatever, you do you.

The proposed $880 billion cut to US health care leads to mass deaths particularly the disabled. I hadn’t heard of it until last night via @stevenspohn.bsky.social. It has the hallmarks of eugenics policy making. A democratic country that now considers the vulnerable as grifters.

The Linux term bell is singularly the most annoying noise in the world. The fact that it’s still on by default is a nail in the coffin for 2025 as the year of ‘Linux on the desktop’.

The New Zealand government opening its borders to “digital nomads“ is classic cognitive dissonance. The current government is hostile to its own people working remotely. Meanwhile, they’re trying to encourage the highly skilled to come to a country whose own highly skilled people are fleeing.
