The irony of finding out my NHI has been reverted without being changed back on a letter from endocrinology to my doctor is supreme though. It's maybe lost its power after the 5th or 6th time...

One of the biggest barriers to dealing with any social/interpersonal problem is confusing a behavior problem (what people do) for a knowledge problem. Knowledge problems are more straightforward to solve. So everyone redefines the problem as that. Plus it helps the well-educated feel superior.

I considered starting dating again and then I remembered how after I broke up with one ex, their friends started a social media campaign which included someone anonymously messaging me to say (paraphrased) "your ex fiancé said it was your fault they strangled you" and I think single is still good eh

Coincidentally, on reflection, I think this was the moment where I became disillusioned with activism and politics, which is a sadness I wish I could heal one day.

I think that restricting access to ADHD medication is silly. Imagine AF8. We talk about the biggest hazard in an emergency being people... now imagine people with suddenly unmedicated ADHD who had no ability to get an emergency supply.

I have to check the kids' clothes every day for smuggled contraband (toys they're trying to take to school). My girl didn't wanna unclamp her arms from her side.. as I had her lift them, out rained an army of tiny yellow ducks. Just quackers.

Great reporting in The Post on the 'softened' school sick-day guidance. Reports how Health NZ did not assess the risks. Now, hospitals are cancelling surgeries while late-winter flu surges. Prioritising bums on seats over public health has consequences. 1/4 www.thepost.co.nz/politics/361...

thepost.co.nzSeymour called for softer rules for sick days without health risks being assessedAssociate Health Minister David Seymour’s call for language around sick days to be softened to boost attendance was done without assessing the health impacts.

Happy Saturday! One of the kids just dramatically sighed and stated "I can't believe we have to be grownups now" because they made a huge mess on the kitchen table out of century eggs and have to clean it up themselves.

Regretfully, I was intending to clean and tidy my house today and I've been swept off my feet by a migraine and it's associated fatigue. It needs done so badly... I can't decide if I push through and crash tomorrow instead of go to work, or rest now. Both work and home are important.

Exhausted and crashy... and our support worker is sick. Healthcare New Zealand have still failed after 6 weeks to organise an alternative plan for my kōtiro for when this happens, this is something like the 5th missed session in those 6 weeks.

They keep asking "does she need us today"... do they realise how hard it is to get NASC funding in the first place?! Of course we need them! Stings harder on a day I can't even get out of bed all that easily.

Periodic reminder that *anticipation* of mistreatment is just as much a barrier to seeking healthcare as actual experiences of mistreatment. When people avoid healthcare to protect themselves they miss out on both preventive medicine & also the therapeutic relationship that might address those fears

The amount of stories I have from friend chats and advocacy spaces about NZ doctors telling women and non-binary people that the thing they are seeking advice on is all in their head and they are simply anxious, for the thing to then be proven as an actual worrisome thing could fill several books.

This policy would directly lead to physical abuse of disabled and neurodivergent children. Tell your friends. I'm absolutely serious.

Hey teacher/educator Bluesky... this sort of cryptograph puzzle has worked out to be a big hit for Mr 6. Does anyone have any pre-made that I could borrow?

If the people you are paying to write a curriculum need to use "AI tools" to "check and generate content", you are paying the wrong people and you should actually not have dumped the people who are capable of these core tasks.

This should be bigger news than, say, National's ghost paid parental leave. #nzpol

And Simeon Brown has quietly changed the elective surgery waiting time in NZ from 4 months to 12 months for a specialist appointment. Share it. If your GP sends a waiting list referral you get the Xray, then a letter advising of 12 month wait to see a Specialist.

Everye projectioun of the future ys a storye. And so the fate of the worlde doth depende on the study of storyes: how thei are made, how thei worke, what thei do, & how thei connect to cultures and ydeas. Let everyone learne these skills. Funde educacioun yn the humanityes & the HEART disciplines.

So apparently you are unable to access a needs assessment if your qualifying condition was diagnosed via telehealth, which means that even though I just paid $700 for the only form of diagnosis I could afford and access, and even through it found me to be autistic, I cannot get help.

I could wax lyrical about the unjust access to qualifying documents, the financial burden this places on people who may be struggling to get by, the challenges inherent to the condition that can make getting out of the house for assessment challenging. But personally it's just shit. I'm sick of it.

I didn't think this was controversial but a basic need of everyone living in NZ is, in fact, to be aware of natural hazards around you and have plans for your household or workplace in the event that there is an emergency and comms don't work. Don't expect to be able to load the website after AF8.

Anyway, this week's jobs are to finish drafting a community activation plan to take back to the community, check that for the next 10 weeks the disaster kit will be enough for an extra human, and keep doing my bit within a community with my neighbours.

Oh, also... redundancy. Over 20000 people were able to fill in felt reports on Geonet following the quake last night. Wouldn't it be cool if CDEM worked with Geonet to repeat evac info there too?

For large swathes of New Zealand, there are emergencies that will result in not only there being zero available comms, but also no one coming in to immediately help. So what can YOU do. What are YOU aware of.

Because civil defence is not just some agency in a bunker telling you what to do, civil defence is all of us, every community, preparing us to look after ourselves and each other. You have to actually "look up".

I co-lead a community preparedness group. You know what I keep hearing? "When people will come to help us". You know who "people" are going to be? OURSELVES. Our neighbours! Our communities!

If you live in a low lying coastal area and you feel a long and strong earthquake the advice has always been "get gone". Don't wait for advice. Even better, talk to your household about it. Plan where you'll go. Plan a route and some backups. Where will you meet? Don't expect to text.

I have an extra 6 year old for the next 10.5 weeks. He's super into Hot Wheels and we just don't have anything for them to drive on. Does anyone in Dunedin have any Hot Wheels tracks needing love that they might be open to passing along? We are making do with a track he has drawn on cardboard.

Did you know my cat is being starved? She receives the same prescribed quantity of her $98/bag vet dictated food every morning and night and has done for 5 months straight. But she is being starved.
