I've gotten into arguments with ecologists here and elsewhere about the contribution of human land management to biodiversity and ecosystem function. Many people believe that people=bad news, I think the story is much more complicated, and this new paper provides strong support for my view

Two of three chapters are already published as research arcticles in scientific journals: Ch. 1. was published in #EcologicalEconomics where I focused on how contract design and observable characteristics shape #farmers willingness to engage in an voluntary AE contract to improve biodiversity.

While in Ch. 2. we examine how the farmers' identities and their willingness to take risk affect their preferences for private and public contract organisers and how they perceive different ways of getting renumerated (per ha payment or labelling approach.

As the village museum no longer exists, I’d like to give this project away; for similar purpose. Otherwise, it’ll just end up as a vise stand or yard art. It’s a line-shaft drill that’s been converted to run on a belt and motor. Everything’s included. Needs love, works – I’ve already repaired it. 🇩🇪

The farmers prefer agri-environmental contracts organized by the government over contracts from retailers or NGOs. AE contracts with fixed per hectare payments are preferred over those with price premiums with a label. 2/5

Contracts granting the option to join a farmer cluster (which is a group of farmers with the aim of landscape-scale conservation) are more liked by farmers than contracts without clusters. Substantial heterogeneity exists in farmers’ preferences for agri-environmental contracts. 3/5
