i have a SHITTON of game ideas but somehow none of them are things that'd work well on an nes except for one... hmmmmm

i don't think ive ever talked about this in public, but a few years ago i was approached by a professional documentary crew working on a story about a roblox predator. they wanted to know if i had any information about the situation

turns out, the person who originally brought the allegations to light followed me on twitter, probably to get me to help spread awareness, but i never noticed! unfortunately, though, i couldn't be of much help since i knew nothing about the situation or anyone involved

i was randomly reminded of what whole thing, and i wonder if that documentary ever ended up getting made crazy to think that i almost made my netflix debut years ago LMAO

it's shocking to me that c# has no good ui frameworks for desktop apps none not a single one no, avalonia is dogshit too

then there's microsoft's own multi-platform option: maui maui is hot fucking garbage. it was clearly made with mobile first, windows second. everything else is a complete afterthought and blazor is somehow even worse than that!!! MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!

the only framework i havent given a serious try to at this point is uno, but im like 99% sure it also doesn't solve any of my complaints this shit's depressing man, no wonder why everyone's making web apps

it's shocking to me that c# has no good ui frameworks for desktop apps none not a single one no, avalonia is dogshit too

avalonia WOULD be great if the default "fluent" theme wasn't so fucking garbage. customizing it feels like constantly fighting against a series of really poor default choices

winui 3 is not as pleasant to work with, but in contrast, its got really good, albeit opinionated default choices. it's what i used in my old monkey ball mod loader. i actually like it a lot! problem? windows only. which i guess makes sense considering it's "winui" but come on...

forgot to mention but i put the buttons on my site. feel free to steal em!

chat, is this good enough for an 88x31 button?

im adding a guestbook to my website. reply to this post if you want your message to show up!

somehow didnt realize sploob was still frontpaged on itch! and im still getting a ton of support and kind words from people, thank you everyone! i really need to get to make this into a full game now that im less sick

now the question is... do i call the steam/switch version SPLOOB too? or do i add "DELUXE" to the end of it or something "SPLOOB PLUS"? why is naming the HARDEST part of gamedev

BREAKING 🔥 @ethereumJoseph is hinting at creating a Microstrategy for Ethereum ETH

you're laughing. grifters are invading my hobby and you're laughing.

i dont want to equate ai with crypto. stuff like nfts and the blockchain were actually far less destructive than ai simply because of how useless they were, despite how far they were pushed but you cannot deny that both technologies attract the same kind of braindead morons

"AI can't create anything new because it just blends existing discoveries" well 1. practically this is not true, the entire math community is dealing with a crisis of AI competently making discoveries 2. I don't think our set of discovered work is convex, "just blending" can still go to new places

how is this a real screenshot

Last I'll post about this, but Elon Musk disagrees with me. This means I am onto something, and I feel more valid in my opinion than ever.

i was gonna make a joke about this being the next gamedev culture war, but looking at the responses on x the everything app, the only real gamedev i can see siding with tim sweeney here is... daniel kaplan for some reason??? you know, the ex-mojang guy the rest are ALL aibros. not even indie devs

i had to spend like the last 4 days doing constant hospital visits for government related reasons, and now im suddenly super sick coincidence?

update: im dying. goodbye cruel world. sorry i never finished flashback my last gift to the world reddit torture goodbye....,,,,,,

cross is probably my favorite album of all time (alongside hold your colour) so like what

the best way to tell whether you can trust a cool project these days is to look at who's actually behind it and whether they have any history of doing related work this sucks for beginners, and those who chose not to be very public with their work, but... it is what it is

the truth is that if someone appears out of nowhere with no prior related work, an empty github, and a complicated project that would've been really hard to build before llms, that's a massive red flag. at that point, there's no way to know whether they actually understand what they're doing or not

that's bad. not just in the "the code will be buggy" sense, but you also cannot know for sure if, say, they made some design changes with the game you're wanting to play, and you don't know if they truly understand the game they're working with enough to make good changes

it is my hot take is that when a game is successful 99% of the time it's because they've done something right, and not because of sheer luck. if anything, i don't think games find success merely because of "luck"

but that doesn't make it so that when someone from uk makes a successful game, it's successful because they're from uk. and you can apply this logic to so many different things a huge part of success is also not just making a "good game", but also doing good marketing or knowing the right people

if anything, that's way more important than actually making good games. ive seen so many people get to places despite not really being "talented", simply because they were good at forming connections. feels like cheating, but that's the rules of the game

luck is always a factor of course. something as simple as where someone is born is probably the biggest one nobody thinks of. like, i lost so many opportunities simply because of where im from. if i was from somewhere like uk or netherlands id be unstoppable

i wish i could say that at the very least i appreciate the honesty but i dont

it's also weird to me because the appeal has always been a mixture of "wow this is cool" and "some madman did it" now the cool factor is heavily diminished because there are so many of these now, and it's not like there's any real technical skill behind any of them
