Okay, folks. For reasons beyond my control, the series had to be retitled, so allow me to officially make a re-introduction to REMNANTS, BOOK ONE: DUST. (ASHES, book two of the REMNANTS duology, is also available. New audio versions aren't up yet, but will be soon.)

Time for my semi-regular likely futile question: Do any of you know of any paying horror markets that accept novelettes (roughly 17-18K, in this case)? It's a combination mystery horror and folk horror, with a little bit of body horror and just a sprinkle of what might be cosmic.

I prefer professional rates, but I'll consider near-pro for the right market. It needs to be a market that does not use AI in any capacity. No, the length cannot be substantially altered in either direction. No, I am not currently looking for advice on self-publishing it.

It's a start.

The Society of Authors has withdrawn from the ill-conceived concession to the dark side that was the "ethical GenAI" charter because of the mass and vocal outrage of authors. Publishers need to be made afraid of this level of anger too.

Intellectually, I acknowledge I've played every card in my hand trying to reach the relevant industry people, that I've come up short, and that I'm never going to be able to write the D&D/BG3-linked novel I've had in my head for ages. But emotionally and creatively, I can't make myself let it go.

It's been a long time since I've had a novel idea I wanted to write this much. 😢 (No, I cannot afford the time/labor to write it for free as fan-fic, and no, "filing off serial numbers" is absolutely not an option.)

I have had this Goddamn song stuck in my head all day. How often do you earworm *yourself*?! 😝

So, yes, Elon needs to be tried for high crimes, potentially including treason. But--and this is important--everyone at Starlink who followed his orders regarding the Ukraine slowdown *also* needs to be standing in front of a judge. I cannot stress this enough.

I am absolutely convinced that Chuck Tingle is a tulpa that the LGBTQ+ community manifested entirely by accident a decade ago, and this newest release is not making me doubt my theory at all. 😂

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

Dear scammer, While your e-mail is obviously fake anyway, I humbly suggest that "I’m especially interested in [genre/book title, if you have one]" indicates an insulting lack of effort on your part, and I must regretfully decline to be scammed today.

I'll need to sit with it a while before I can say anything for certain, but Spider-Man: Brand New Day might be my favorite of the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. I have a few quibbles, but nothing major.

(And most of the quibbles I do have are more about how certain choices made may impact further MCU movies, rather than what they did for/in this movie.) And it *definitely* has the best action choreography of the Holland films.

If Texas doesn't flip, I don't wanna hear shit from anyone about how it was stupid to try unless they lead with proof of what they did to help THERE IS STILL TIME TO HELP. YOU CAN DO IT TODAY!

The problem is not that we believe we can do it. The problem is that too many people get excited it will happen but don't do any work to make sure it does, and then they have to perform extra cynicism to get past their embarrassment at acting like they believed in something.

I think the polls are absolute bullshit because I have no idea what anyone in this country will do in the next 12 hours much less in November. But I also am gonna run at these midterms screaming with 100% conviction that we can win. Not that we will. But we can! But there's a trick to that.

The actor who has been cast to play Charles "Professor X" Xavier in the future MCU is over a decade younger than I am. Please fetch me my walker and my Metamucil now.

If I had a nickel for every time in this D&D campaign the PCs killed a character who was *meant* to be a recurring villain before they could "recur," I'd have two nickels... 😜

I managed to end the combat--and my sheer panic--by having my main character drink a Potion of Invisibility while Shadowheart beat Wyll to death. (And I don't mean unconscious, I genuinely mean to death, because she kept attacking him after he was down. 😳)

Because I had Enhance Leap going, I just jumped down, rather than walking around to the stairs. While I was in mid-air, the owlbear cub ran into the spot where I was going to land. So I landed on him, for 6 damage.

The entire lower half of the camp--the cub, Scratch, Halsin, Shadowheart, and the two Withers hirelings I had hanging around--went hostile against my main character and Wyll, for "attacking" the cub. And this is an Honour Run. Basically my first. So reloading was not an option.

I'm really not kidding. I was at the Gymforge-associated campsite, the one that has two different levels, separated by a stone staircase. I decided to go down the lower level, because Wyll was in my party but I wanted to swap him out with Shadowheart, and they're both camped on the lower level.

the republicans are wide open on several fronts, historically unpopular president, unpopular war, record high gas. any dem throwing trans people under the bus at this moment is doing it because they want to. not like they need to, do they. even if it worked as a vote winner, which it doesn't

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups. This group is Number Two.

Okay, yeah. He may be technically alive, but he's *gone*. I don't have to have any respect or even sympathy for him personally to say that treating someone as a prop this way is a crime, at least ethically and morally if not legally.

I recognize that, once you're multiple seasons into a show, such things will occasionally happen. But I really dislike it when the main characters survive something due to sheer coincidence. Also, almost twenty minutes of an info dump conversation in a forty-minute episode is not great writing. 😝

(Yes, I have deliberately not mentioned what show I'm talking about. Partly to avoid spoilers--not that anything I've said really qualifies--and partly because I don't want to debate the merits of the show, which I'm enjoying overall, based on a few flaws.)

That moment of sad, horrified realization that you did something wrong when you reach the goblin camp and discover the creature running around being chased is an actual chicken. (Only BG3 players have the slightest clue what the hell I'm talking about. But they get it. Oh, boy, do they get it.) 😝

I know the Alt Natl Park Service account is a questionable source on some issues, but this is accurate and confirmed by multiple other sources. Texas IS doing this. CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION, no matter recently it's been active. And KEEP checking up through the election.
