it's not enough to get agreement, is it? agreement must be stated within your preferred vocabulary (unspecified)?

why everything has to be gender-coded is beyond me. And if we MUST code everything by gender, why we would choose "man" and "woman" to be the exclusive choices as if it were 1950. But you do see that a lot these days. LYFFF ferevensake

Brad Lander is one of the most humane and decent people out there in American politics right now. And he’s a bulwark against genuinely radical anti-Israel politics in the US right now. And still, the Israeli government hates him. They’re writing off a whole generation of non-Orthodox American Jews.

it's a serious problem being a cis male of that generation, just an impossible demographic

the biggest self-inflicted wounds among democrats this october have now come from the party's leading gerontocrats. i'm so sick of them.

And so we end up at the horrifying reality that the Nazis murdered so many people that the Holocaust - with all of the soul-crushing weight the word rightly has - represents 'only' about a third of it. Crimes so vast, I always worry talking about one that I might be taken to minimize the others.

"everything I have is yours", Luke 15:31 well I guess I don't have to worry about THAT any more, not even throwing a party

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

"They take the parts that assuage their guilt and ignore the rest." substitutionary atonement in a nutshell.

bagnew6.bsky.social@bagnew6.bsky.social

They aren’t looking at religion as “a thing for me to base my life on and an example to aspire to”, but “a thing to tell me that I’m a good person as I am now and everyone else is worse than me”. They take the parts that assuage their guilt and ignore the rest.

SINCE gender is multi-dimensional, and gender roles are largely socially constructed, why is it necessary to insist on the "ontological" status of the binary category of "men" and "women". seems to me we ought to put Categories aside and every unique person can Let Their Freak Flag Fly

Donald Trump has always been enormously stupid, but now he's also dangerously insane.

do you mean "PERSONS have rights" or "PEOPLES have rights" there's a lot of trouble being made around the idea that various collectives have specialness for ethic or religious reasons, whereas the facts of whatever matter apply first and foremost to individuals in their individual situations

"Online Rent-a-Sage" Bret Devereaux@bretdevereaux.bsky.social

That said, to be clear: I think the Iran War is dumb as hell. I also do not think countries or nations have rights. I think people have rights. So the whole 'sovereignty!' argument from bloodstained tyrants does not impress. But it is worth noting it is cynical bullshit on its own terms too.

DFCs for tanker boom operators??? "The awards have come at 15 bases, given out to groups ranging from a single fighter pilot in Alaska to 12 tanker pilots and boom operators at a single ceremony at Fairchild Air Force Base"

Nicholas Slayton@nslayton.bsky.social

"As for the F-22 pilots at Langley, the veil of secrecy over their DFCs was partially pierced days later by a small newspaper in a midwestern town with a population of just over 3,000 residents" Local news beat Air Force silence.

Tonight, 47 Senators supported my resolution to get accountability for the 9 Americans killed on the West Bank & for Palestinians who face injustices daily. That's more support than we've ever had in this fight. Republicans blocked us, but we won't stop until we get justice.

the radical feminists captured the whole sex dialog and forced sexuality into a Patriarchy vs. Everybody mode where women's views were centered. In those days the Black Liberation movement explored the essential sexual elements of racism, Gay Liberation was forward about alternative male sex ->

They disinvented the VCR. You might think that the reason we don't have VCRs anymore is because VCRs were supplanted by DVDs, PVRs and streaming, but that's not the case. They had it in for the VCR from the very start, and they never stopped trying to kill it. Eventually, they succeeded. 1/

the reason billionaires become evil isn't because money is in itself evil. once you have an ungodly excess of money, people beg to you. They say wonderful things to you. They encourage you to not be thankful because you don't *have* to be. So you stop being thankful and then your soul withers away

as an old person I find getting up with the sun unavoidable, def a life change. Old days used to be, us oldies would take care of the tods, let the dogs out, and build up the breakfast fire, leaving adults free to snooze and stay up late doing social bonding stuff -->

it would be great if warfare expertise is moving in the defensive direction. Since last century the basic power move has been the Blitz such as Trump attempted, leading to maximum casualties/civil disruption. Now if we could only do something about the long-range missles

And of course the other problem with 'going all drones' so to speak is that while it lets a country 'porcupine' pretty well (please, Taiwan, take notes), what it doesn't seem to be able to do is achieve a lot in the way of creating opportunities for offensive effects.

not even clear what problem we would be trying to solve with our fantastically destructive hoard of stuff even if China did invade Taiwan meanwhile kids go hungry

The underlying post here is basically saying "the democrats should spend a huge amount of political capital, and literal taxpayer capital, rebuilding the military capability of the United States so that the next Republican can use it to destabilize the world again" and like, no? Why would we do that
