stumbled on a set of incredible 1970s illustrations in some government reports, so had to spend a day collecting them into a website to share with my friends on the computer: nickseaver.net/paperwork

Why would aerodynamics matter for a vehicle that's stopping every 100 ft? The other big goal with this design beyond safety is making it easier for mail carriers to handle packages easily, which has increasingly become a huge focus of the USPS as people send fewer and fewer letters
The American mind cannot process a vehicle that is not designed to kill as many pedestrian children as possible

Well, I wrote a lengthy email to Anna Ganley / @societyofauthors.bsky.social for what it's worth. tl;dr no I do not think you can decide for your entire membership what ethical use of GenAI in publishing looks like, or that it exists and is achievable.

The British Fantasy Society does not allow the use of generative AI in any of its spaces. For more on this, read the interview with outgoing chair Shona Kinsella from earlier this year. This position has not changed since last week's AGM. ⬇️ britishfantasysociety.org/its-a-cheat-...

I was looking at this again, admiring the ridiculous amounts of skill and bravura technique and just noticed that Tezuka drew himself in there among his hundreds of brain children
Osamu Tezuka showing us how it’s done (from a catalogue I have just seen but not going to buy because it’s £79). The secret of crowd scenes is each individual drawing doesn’t have to be that good. It’s the number of them together that makes something amazing happen.

The number of cases of cervical cancer reported in Scotland among women given the HPV vaccine at 12-13 years of age is now zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. Zero. www.bbc.com/news/article...

For those asking, the seats were based on the 1969 "Carousel" by American industrial designer Elsie Crawford and used the very a la mode new material of fibreglass. They pop up online for sale occasionally but we're talking multiple thousands of pounds
The 1981 music video for "All About You" by the Scars was filmed partly in Waverley Station, in all its orange plastic glory. I do have to correct myself though, it was called the Talisman Bar at that time - it was Nor'Loch later on.
this has reminded me that when Bags for Life were introduced all the chains made a big deal of saying they would replace your bag when it broke/wore out. But enough time has passed that we all forgot and they took those signs down… and never mentioned it again, hmmmmmm
Yeah, plus nobody knows that the reason they're called bags for life isn't because they don't break, it's because you're meant to take them back to the shop and they'll replace it for free. Nobody knows that, so they just get chucked away

Replying to @mellino.bsky.social
For example it costs the government £310 to process a settlement (also known as indefinite leave to remain) application, but charges ten times as much: £3226. www.thebureauinvestigates.com/stories/2026...
