These news always remind me of that lady who bought an apartment facing the Solfatara because she wants to be the first to die when the Campi Flegrei erupts. "I want my name to be the first one on the news!" She said in a documentary I saw 😅

As a journal editor I have seen some authors and students attempt to "legitimately" use genAI for helping to arrange the reference lists for pieces they have written themselves. The problem is that this is completely unreliable and often introduces horrific errors. Easier to just... not use genAI.
Following up on this, it would appear that there are hallucinated references in at least three publications by Dr Hadas Zahavi, Founding Director of Columbia University Global Center for Peace - including an article in Humanities and Social Sciences Communications published by Nature...

Every culture has their own historical pathologies, and I'll be honest, Europeans having buildings built and designed across a century where summers *didn't* regularly hit 40°C is for sure a problem to manage, but americans building around the superabundance of cheap energy is, like, also a problem.

wow — the preprint host, arxiv, is banning authors for a year if they submit papers with hallucinated citations 🤖
I find this unsettling: A new study in #Lancet shows that the number of faux citations in scientific articles is on the rise, and #AI is likely to blame. @aniloza.bsky.social reports. www.statnews.com/2026/05/07/l...

"We took idiosyncratic passages out of context from longer, often challenging works, and asked a supercomputer to render them more palatable in isolation. Which version do you find more palatable in isolation?"
Both of the options here are human writers. The first option is unprocessed human writing and the second option is human writing run through a language model to reproduce the same outputs with different words If it couldn't have existed without training data, it isn't creating anything at all.

Culture: cops are all that stands between you and being killed by criminals! SCOTUS: I mean if they feel like it.
If you don’t know what this case is: Woman gets restraining order against violent ex. He violates it. She calls cops. They don’t come by. Repeat several times. Eventually, he murders her and daughters. Family sues cops, said had obligation to respond and failed. SCOTUS? “Nah, no obligation.”
