Have you considered electing politicians that are principled and would not be upset if you voted them out of office when society decided it wanted something different?

It's not hard at all if you follow politics. Both parties say things that have 0% but what they really believe basically has a 50/50 overlap. And yet you fucking morons keep voting for them. Weird.

(Anonymized this because the person who said it is a good person and I don't want to be mean to them over something that like 95% of people don't see for some reason. I'm mostly just frustrated about it.)

Beyond disgusted by even more rape allegations against the President of the United States. "In total, more than 25 different women...have independently accused Donald Trump of rape, sexual assault, or other sexual misconduct." Report w/ new details: democrats-judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-su...

Richard Hanania's primary idea as a thinker is to flatter whoever holds power. Right now, that’s liberals--given the profound backlash against MAGA. Letting him in means admitting liberalism has room for someone who talks like an unreconstructed fascist.

Had such a blast talking about Richard Hanania - fascist dweeb turned centrist darling - with the great @jaredlholt.bsky.social, @michaelehayden.bsky.social & @henryburke.bsky.social for the latest Posting Through It www.patreon.com/PostingThrou...

Told my mom that there was a buck chasing after the does behind my condo and then further had to explain that "awwww" was probably not the appropriate reaction.

If you read stuff like this and don't start to wonder whether there's a better system of government than one that basically relies on having more people that disagree with it than agree with it...

"But what do we do with the gifted kids, they'll just sit in class and twiddle their thumbs?" I don't know, I guess it's impossible for them to help their classmates, or work on a project in class that uses their curiosity and also teaches their classmates something. <shrug> Guess we can't!

I could, quite literally, write a basic backend service and demonstrate my knowledge of backend service architectures in the same amount of time required to figure out how to write a graph algorithm.

The refusal to acknowledge that Democrats fundamentally do similar things in an effort to tilt the scales in their direction is something that we really need to overcome. The fact that Republicans are simply willing to go further is not a good reason to ignore it!

The girlfriend is watching all the American Horror Story series and despite enjoying the first season I am incredibly glad I did not waste my time on the others.

yeah it's seemingly hard to internalize how expensive programmers are. chillsky, a whole ass bsky client that you can use, cost me ~a dollar of my subscription, but would have been ~$100 at api rates but it would have cost ~$10,000 as contract work (a cheap senior engineer-month)

Anyway they (Ant/OAI) are sorta subsidizing the consumer market but the consumer market isn’t the market, B2B is, and the goal is to get people using the product at home and then persuading their employers to pay full price for it

If you elect me president I will bring the full force of government to bear on this issue and force Tom Nichols and Matt Darling to be in a room with cameras for an hour a week during primetime.

There are few things greater than watching Tom Nichols getting owned because he thinks he's smart

remarkable

It eventually netted me a pretty good government job (one that required a decent MA), as a GS-11 working in North Carolina. Fortunately, that job offer came as a snagged a scholarship for a PhD - so I never went to North Carolina.

Note how he thinks a "Columbia MA" is something that would be something likely to net him a good paying job. (It was in political science.)

Tom Nichols@radiofreetom.bsky.social

I have brought it up many times, especially the story of how I finally ended washing cars and driving a taxi in the mid-80s with a Columbia MA. I was never unemployed for long because I was willing to take crappy jobs, as long as they gave me a weekly paycheck.

Guy who has never not had a job: it's easy not to work

The article is not a 20 page research paper. It's a summary of a lot of trends, including research that looks back to the late 20th century. (My pet theory: Look closely at what happens after passing the ADA.) But the reality is that young men don't work because it's easy not to work.

Pretty sure there was a "pizza prices are getting insane" discussion on here within the past six months and I just had to explain to my girlfriend that I'm not paying $25 for a 12" white pizza or $35 for a 12" pizza with pepperoni, bacon, and jalapenos, even via DoorDash.

You know you've been on Bluesky too long when the lady at the voting place says you can put your ballot in the "top or bottom" slot and your first thought is "a switch? Nice."

I predict that one of the more interesting subgroups that will gain notoriety next year are the anti-AI guys who will refuse to update their software to non-vulnerable versions because the exploits are found by AI and are subsequently pwned out the wazoo

this person is 22

To the replies trying to defend this: No. You don't use AI to patch security vulnerabilities. The code is gonna be basic & generic AF. You're just setting yourself up to get hacked easier. Or make your foundation less stable. I want professionals handing this, not a damn plagiarist sub-par robot!
