Just some of the dozens of books I've written, co-written, annotated, or compiled, as an introduction.

Introduction time again: Publisher of About Comics, a mainly-reprint, often-historic line. (25+ years!) Writer of many books, notably on Peanuts and on comics-making. Eisner winner. Comics Show & Tell video guy. Jokey. Former sperm donor. Like my LGBTQIA friends & family... and S ones as well.

Just a quick note that if you ever saw Chicago in any of its forms, this is the period and the sort of coverage that inspired it... although not this specific case (it was based, rather, on two 1924 cases.)

This is how complete the "identify a woman by her husband's name" thing was: this woman is called only by the name of a man who is no longer a husband, on account of her being a widow, on account of her shooting him to death, on account of abuse so bad that even a 1923 male jury saw it as justified.

Farewell to actor and comics creator Walter Koenig, part of the crew who meant a lot to many of us.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Judge Sanchez questioning DOJ figuring out who is noncitizens from envelopes: "My name is Gabriel Sanchez. I guarantee you there are many Gabriel Sanchezes in Los Angeles County."

At some point, I started asking sketch artists (just a couple) for drawings of pandas playing role playing games, as a gift for my son, who was into both pandas and RPGs. Then I realized that the game they would play was Pandas And Adventures, commonly refered to as PandA. Now I want a copy.

My first five ttrpgs in (roughly) the order that I played them: 1. Advanced D&D (there's a chance I played the basic as well, cannot recall.) 2. Traveller 3. Boot Hill 4. Bunnies & Burrows 5. Top Secret

My first five ttrpgs in the order that I played them: 1. Blue box D&D 2. White box D&D with Greyhawk etc 3. Traveller 4. Tunnels & Trolls 5. Runequest I may have played one session of EPT in there, and Top Secret would have been right after.

Hivemind: In the wake of Crisis, when Miller gave Batman a restart with Year One, Steve Gerber was slated to restart Wonder Woman (ended up being replace with the Potter/Perez series). Steve and Frank got together and planned to take on Superman, (went to Byrne.) Do any pitch materials exist?

On September 9, 1946, The (Waterbury CT) Democrat started Komikwiz, a nightly call-in contest, where kids could win original comic strip art by being among the first three to answer a question about the funnies in that day's paper.

(Diving into this sort of curiosity research is strange, but it did lead me to interviewing someone recently about something she'd done 70 years ago. One frustrating point in the historic record: Her daughter is just referred to as Mrs. Dennis Jones.

I give out comic books in addition to food treats. I always get adults seeing something on the table and asking if they can have one. I tell ‘em “you’re an adult. You know the rules to this. “Ya gotta say ‘tricker treat’!”

This isn’t just an education-oriented candidate who happens to have bad ideas about trans students. Being bad to trans students is the central point of her candidacy. Vote, California, and not for her.

Maggie Tokuda-Hall@maggietokudahall.bsky.social

A reminder for CA voters: Sonja Shaw, who endorsed by Moms for Liberty, is running to hold office in our education dept. She's anti-LGBTQ and would absolutely ban books if she wins. Vote for Richard Barrera for CA State Superintendent of Public Instruction. www.kqed.org/news/1210382...

Just saw a much-shared post complaining that you needed an Apple subscription to watch It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown these days. The good news is that that's false -- each year, Apple provides a window for free watching (still need the free app). The bad news? The window was last weekend.

Thanks folks for the support. Despite being a relative success in most of the realms that matter and making it through well more than half of my alloted time in this realm, the world can still find ways of making one feel incompetent at life.

Heavily stressed, due to combination of navigating America's strange health system for a family member and working on a project that, while it will be great when completed, involves many moving parts with far larger entities. Ever considered saying something nice about me or my work? Today, please.

To be fair, not a scandal then. This was headline-worthy because Rev George W. Lucas was Black, and the area had priorly been 'restricted'. George W. Lucas is not to be confused with the director of Star Wars, whose middle name is... "Walton". Okay, maybe they are to be confused, I don't know.

This is from the Plentywood (Montana) Herald of November 17, 1932. My instinct that this was Five-Star Theater (a rotating slott that included the series Flywheel, Shyster, And Flywheel starring Groucho and Chico Marx) is foiled by that being a Standard Oil half-hour that started Nov 28.

Not feeling the energy to go to a No Kings rally today, so instead I did my part by dropping my ballot off. Never did find a good left-half-of-the-spectrum voter guide that covered judge retention. Settled for finding a heavily-toward-the-right guide and voting the opposite.

Working on my ballot. The publications I used to count on for voting guides have been bought out by those with problematic politics. Some decisions are easy. Anyone who is an R a decade into the Trump era is a no-go. But not all positions are officially "partisan". So...

At the ballot drop box, an older guy drove into the handicap spot, rolled down the window, asked me if I could put his ballot in for him. It really pained me to say "no", but others are not allowed to deliver your ballot unless you sign it over to them for delivery. Stickler, I know, but...

She keeps getting fired. They hire her back though; it's hard to find someone else of that caliber. --Dad

Last week, I watched on Hulu a new season 2 episode of RJ Decker, in which Beau Bridges shows up as Decker's father, a bit of a grifter. Tonight, I watched Hulu a new season 2 episode of The Low Down, in which Tommy Lee Jones shows up as the lead's father, a bit of a grifter....

Today's Wikipedia victory: Someone had moved the page for Next Men creator John Byrne from "John Byrne (comics)" to "John Byrne (illustrator)", because "(comics)" doesn't match current disambiguation guidelines. But even if "illustrator" were a non-controversial term, it's a poor choice for Byrne..

Some of us object to "illustrator" for comics artists because illustrators generally augment the text; in comics, the pictures are the text. But Byrne wrote a large portion of the comics he drew, and even some he didn't. So I raised an objection, a conversation was had and now...

I am not even halfway through the book, and I think Joel's been refered to as "Peter" four times now... including once by the character Peter. I've also just run into the term "blade of glass" when they clearly meant "grass".

Am reading Tim Blake Nelson’s novel Superhero, about the making of a superhero universe film, and it’s readable but needed a better editing read for basic stuff, like “it says Peter said this, but Peter isn’t in this scene. You meant Joel.”

If you search the discount shelves around Christmastime, you will find knockoff games - Oops! instead of Sorry!, Problem instead of Trouble, etc. But Mystery Game was a discount Clue knockoff published by… the US publishers of Clue!

Almost shrugged off what turned out to be a genuine interview request because of this very thing. As a writer and publisher, I'm getting AI-generated spam wanting to give me a loan, buy out my company, for a cost get me in front of book clubs, on podcasts, etc., constantly.

Actual human persons contacting authors about podcasts, appearances, or really anything at all...thanks to the flood of AI bullshit in our inboxes, please be as informal as possible in your emails or begin with a DM. Otherwise we're likely to assume you're a bot.

I just bought my lawyer medallion off of one who was going out of business.
