we’ve transitioned to a service economy, which is why we can only serve cunt and not manufacture it

Since I regularly piss off YIMBYs, I want to make sure its clear that I completely agree with @maxdubler.com. I don't believe in so-called "inclusionary" zoning. Directly provision housing and have standardized, simple rules for private development. You have to keep focus on the big picture.

Boston’s chief planner is a true believer in the San Francisco model, in which you make it impossible to profitably build apartments by-right so developers are forced into a politicized discretionary negotiation with the city, which relaxes the rules in exchange for below-market units.

What I will add is that standardized & simple rules can include applying rent regulation to new housing construction 15, or maybe even 10, years after building completion. Federal depreciation tax benefits mean this doesn't disincentivize new construction (because of shorter payback horizons)

Unlike this naysayer, I believe we can be a manufacturing cunt country again. We dominated the world at this once, we can again.

Politico wrote up Zohran playing basketball with the uncovering-a-big-scandal tone the same day the NYTimes wrote up "credible allegation that The President of the United States raped a woman" as a political strategy story. Broken media in a nutshell

Nothing about this currently on the homepage of the NYT; a brief article appears elsewhere. The Washington Post hasn't run anything at all. bsky.app/profile/mari...

Will anyone—anyone at all—ask Trump about the rape allegations published in an official report by the House Judiciary Democrats? Or will he continue to escape accountability for his violence?

The "30%/one third" rule of thumb for housing has always been funny because it a) hasn't been based in any empirical research on affordability b) has been both used as an affordability metric **and a housing market pricing metric**. There's a very good history of this in a Canadian context.

Matt Darling@besttrousers.bsky.social

"Percent of income spent on housing" continues to be a sort of silly metric. 1.) It's almost always ~33% 2.) When it's not ~33% it's generally because of a subset of the population is not working (ie, the Florida numbers are because there are retirees without "income")

I am so sorry but also I laughed so hard at this. I’m sorry! It’s terribly annoying!

In the last few weeks i've been bombarded with emails from people who have minor tech support problems. ChatGPT is telling them to email me, writing their emails, and compiling "evidence packets" after convincing them they have stumbled on a major story: www.404media.co/chatgpt-keep...

like this? this is the whole logic of deplatforming, en toto. if you were wondering why center-right liberals and blackshirts were horrified by deplatforming as a strategy and quailed about 'cancel culture', this is why: because it works.

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

What's striking to me are the rules of engagement and the methodology of action here, which more or less is predicated on burying liberal delusions about "debate" or the "marketplace of ideas". The rules were ultimately very simple: amplify your own message and suppress your opponent's.

Was thinking last night about how much I love my job. I get to explore so many different interesting things. I'm not sure any job could hold my interest like the one I managed to invent for myself. I've gotten to write about and research so many different things the past five months.

I think this story is getting misinterpreted. The scale of CDS purchases here is still small. What this is much more likely about is reducing "net exposure" for regulatory/risk management purposes.
