You know when you encounter a senior person in a company, and after talking to them for a while you realise they have been professionally bullshitting for their entire career and people keep promoting them because they sound like they know what theyre doing? Yeah, that is what LLMs remind me of rn

FYI, pretty much all of the frontier models couldn't figure out how to add a HTTP header to a Prometheus HTTP service discovery scrape job. There are people trusting these things with their prod infrastructure ? Wild ...

So you know how most people eat chocolate digestives "upsidedown"? (If you don't, I apologise for the existential crisis you're about to have) Well, how would you fix the design so people intuitively ate them the right way up ?

I just want to be able to talk to people at work, I don't want an"Agent Surface". What would I tell it to do ? "Please convince my bosses agent that this feature is poorly scoped "?

This week's newsletter: PlayStation price rises aren't about Sony’s greed. It’s an indication of the rot at the heart of big tech, which has become a closed economic system predicated on making things worse for most of us so that a very few can make billions. www.theguardian.com/games/2026/a...

theguardian.comWhy is gaming becoming so expensive? The answer is found in AIWe are paying more for a PlayStation so that idiots can use ChatGPT to mislead people on dating apps – something is rotten in the state of gaming

When I used to do digital notes on an iPad, it used to be Goodnotes. However coming back to it I find they are cramming AI into it instead of improving the product. After considerable research, looks like concepts.app is an even better app that has no AI, nor any plans to add any.

concepts.appConcepts App • Infinite, Flexible SketchingEvery idea begins as a concept. Write notes on the infinite canvas, make mind-maps and mood boards, sketch plans, designs and illustrations. Share with friends, clients and other apps.

I was alive when the Fruitiger Aero aesthetic was prominent - and it wasn't in any way cool. It was similar to how we view Corporate Memphis today - soulless and appeasing a desire for progress. Default Winamp skin, on the other hand, _that_ was where it was at.

Sneaky gits, found this sticker in a public place - takes you to a "fan" AI chat service that lets you pretend you're talking to famous people. I bet there are more out there ...

Sorry, I have to post some AI content. This is what an AI generated video of a war correspondant being interrupted by a missile strike looks like. Apart from the obvious text mangling (presk?), there's other things wrong ...

The explosion is very bright and slow. Real munitions are generally fast and dark, unless they happen to atomise a flamable liquid. This is a cinema explosion - achieved IRL by putting a bag of petrol on top of a (low) explosive charge.

The key thing is that, all of the things that happen are cinematic and obvious. Real life is much more messy and dirty and unclear. I hate that now we can't tell the difference between real footage and AI, real footage that doesn't agree with your viewpoint is labelled as AI.

A war correspondant wouldn't turn around to face an explosion that close, nor a camera operator pan to it. They are trained to keep themselves as safe as possible whilst doing their work, not gawk at danger.

I want to make some stickers, mainly because I want to stick them on my stuff, and figured maybe other people might do too. Then I realised that people will probably think it's AI -so I'll have to record a time lapse of designing them to prove it's not. That seems like a lot of overhead.

I also discovered it's frighteningly easy to take a photo of a sticker and get an AI to reverse engineer it, so if I put one up for sale it will get stolen if it's any good at all.

If it was VFX, they did a great job of making it convincincing. If it was harware hacking ... probably sending video frames with some kind of cart adapter?

I think I found the AI coding tool kryptonite. The Network Rail Open Data feeds. It drives them up the wall. "Which one of these 4 schedule types is the real one ? What ID is the right ID to link a train to a schedule ? Why are there so many stations in the north sea?" And round and round it goes

It's my favourite when I search for a programming problem I have, skip past the (incorrect) AI results to a forum post by a real human ... .. who pasted the output of ChatGPT that was also wrong.

Let me tell you a story about cascading machine learning failure. I was working on a project that analysed radio programmes and tried to tag them by topic. When reviewing the data, we spotted something odd. An afternoon call-in show was consistently being tagged with "US politics". 1/

We checked the automatic transcription, and there it was. "Texas on 66995 or call..". The host was actually saying "Text us", but the next phase of the pipeline didn't realise that was a transcription error and assumed they were talking about the US state. 4/

And so, several layers deeper the model was mashing together a bunch of political topics with the mention of a US state and coming to the conclusion they were talking about US politics. 5/

Whilst this might not be that unusual, we also listened to the show with our human ears and that topic didn't come up very often at all. In fact it was mostly regarding UK issues, sometimes politics. 2/

Checking the tags, we found that alongside the actual topics being tagged, it was also being tagged with 'Texas' on a weirdly frequent basis - about every half an hour - almost precisely. 3/

Outer Wilds, if you haven't played it yet, is one of the best games of all time. It's a fun space exploration game with a timeloop twist, and 90% of all game progress happens in your head, as you learn things about the universe and your situation. Absolutely play it if you haven't yet.

Mobius Digital Games@mobiusdigitalgames.com

PSA Outer Wilds is 50% off on Steam till Thursday! This is the biggest discount it's ever gotten; usually sales max at 40%. store.steampowered.com/app/753640/O...

You know what would be really immersive? A game that was entirely filled with NPCs that talk to you in oddly generic yet specific ways, with over-done voice internation and a massive lag between interacting and replying. Oh wait, no, the exact opposite 🙃

If, like me, you had only ever seen Ace Attorney through the medium of memes - HOLD IT! Go play the original trilogy. It's worth it.

I know, everyone, lets hook up a complicated random noise generator to your credit card and identity documents and see what happens! Sounds like a perfect plan with no drawbacks.

It's time for another electric vehicle charging video. Too many people believe EV charging solutions require expensive, huge electric circuits (or worse: service upgrades). The really high-power ones people tend to go with can be a headache, but there are many other options! youtu.be/W96a8svXo14
