It’s taken a while to process our UK tour… hard to put into words how much fun it was. Thanks to everyone who helped put it together, booked a gig, hosted us, fed us, or played with us… and thanks to everyone who came to the gigs and helped made each night so special. Hopefully we’ll be back!

I think the real story of how an acerbic Scotsman ended up in Oakland and somehow inveigled two locals into an indie pop pyramid scheme is probably less exciting than the truth but whatever, @neutrals.bsky.social are the fucking kings of this shit. JANGLEPUNK FOREVER!

Only a few days until our first UK tour. We booked this entirely DIY through the goodwill of the punk/indiepop community. Please try to buy tickets in advance - it will help reassure the kind folk that are putting on the gigs that they haven't made a terrible mistake. Tickets: linktr.ee/neutrals82

still getting the hang of bluesky... happy to be off the bird app for reasons but honestly I miss the community we had on there - my algorithm seemed to keep me insulated from the worst of that world. The bsky algo is so far not serving up similar material even though I follow the same folk.

Development of the new town of the LP requires construction of a new motorway. Stop the Bypass imagines a protest song by a local band against the destruction of homes, parks, and animal habitat in the path of the new road, like how Peckham Action Group commissioned Crisis to write “No Town Hall”.

This thread of the story was inspired by many environmental protests throughout the 70s, 80s, and beyond, particularly the Pollok Free State occupation in Glasgow. We had a lot of help from our friends recording the protest chant section. Thanks MJ, Mikel, Tim, Bobby, Hard Left, etc etc

There’s expensive, heavy equipment to buy and lug around. You get together with a few friends at the weekend and play, maybe sharing a few drinks afterwards.

Eventually they raised enough money to buy some land, planning to do all the labour themselves, but were denied planning permission and further funding by the local council.

I remember all this happening but I didn’t pay much attention as I’ve never been interested in golf, but reading the stories back I’m inspired by their DIY approach. I see a lot of similarities between golfing and playing in a band.

The clubs in neighbouring towns had long waiting lists. They formed Newmains Golf Club, the only golf club in Scotland without a course, and arranged outings to play at other courses.

Poster for the Southampton gig, promoted by Reconnections Collective, including my old pal Rich Levene, who has booked gigs for my old bands Glue, Giant Haystacks, and now Neutrals

In the interests of keeping the dream alive/for anyone that might be new to us here on bluesky, sharing some past works and stories... like most of the songs on new town dream, Steven Proctor, Bus Conductor was inspired by a story from an old newspaper...

PS if you have a zine, blog, or radio show and you can help us get the word out about this tour, please get in touch. Likewise if you have a record shop, cafe, bookshop or whatever and can help by putting up a poster or two. It would be very much appreciated.

TOUR UPDATE! Last two dates filled: Manchester and Leeds added. That will be all for this tour. Ticket links added to linktr.ee/Neutrals82 as they become available. London, Bristol, Coventry, Nottingham, and Leeds are live now. Stay tuned for full lineups, posters, times etc.

We’ve been saving for this all year; After several aborted attempts, Neutrals will finally tour the UK this summer. Lots more news to come, including a couple more gigs that are still not quite finalized. Can’t wait to see you all. Allan, Phil, Jason x

Jason is originally from LA, and after a stint in Sacramento has been in the Bay Area for several years. You may know him from his previous bands FM Knives, Dots, Lyme Regis and more.

You’ll have your first chance to see him in action on Thursday April 30th at Question Mark bar in Soma. We are all curious to see how he’s gonna do!
