A quick intro to Slumberland: we're a tiny indie record label that started in 1989 in MD/DC and has resided in Oakland, CA since 1992. We've mostly focused on indiepop but SLR has also released power-pop, punk, shoegaze, post-punk, etc. Stubbornly uncool.

ICYMI: The Cat's Miaow's beautiful new album "When You Smiled And Turned Away" is out now. It's a lovely statement of warm, glowing pop minimalism and a most welcome companion to all of those classic 7"s and tapes they're so beloved for. On CD and sunny yellow vinyl.

"...it never feels any less like a softly spun secret for lonely days, thoughtful wanders, and half-remembered dreams."

The Cat's Miaow's string of 1990s 7"s and tapes have long been spoken-of in hushed tones for their gentle indiepop mastery. New album "When You Smiled And Turned Away" caps a few years of renewed activity and it's a lovely statement of warm, glowing pop elegance. Out now!

Wonderful Cat's Miaow article/interview by MJ Kim for The Beat.
"...an enduring desire for contemplative moments in a world that demands so much of us. Sanctity is afforded in the reprieve of a passing daydream..."

Lovely review of the new Cat’s Miaow from Rose Overdrive!
“Even as a young band, The Cat’s Miaow’s patient take on indie pop felt mature and timeless; unsurprisingly, the passing of time hasn’t shaken their ability to step right back into this world at all.”
New blog post! Wrote about new records from Dazy @lameorecords.bsky.social, The Cat's Miaow @slumberlandrecords.com, A Country Western @craftedsounds.bsky.social, and Billiam:
The Cat's Miaow have returned with “If You're Lost, You Can Follow Me Home,” a tender tribute to people who look after lost souls. Their first studio album arrives October 23 on Slumberland Records. zurl.co/DFspr
Their debut wraps around the listener like down blanket, a comfort to quell the uncertainty at the heart of their lyrics. They’re here with you, through the doubt, fending off the anxious murmur in the background. The Cat’s Miaow prove why they’ve been a fan favorite over the years. bit.ly/4BlcIPQ
Two singles in and I think you can see that The Spook School's forthcoming new album "Like A Heartbeat" is pretty special. Listen to those singles and preorder here:

Great review of Velocity Girl's "1989-1992" compilation from Big Takeover!
"...a chance to hear those early singles with fresh ears and better sound. Turn it up and let the static do what it did thirty-odd years ago: make a small, honest feeling sound enormous."

Some kind words about the new single from The Spook School from Austin Town Hall
"...we get a reminder of that message through this great bit of fuzzy rock n’ roll that blasts through your speakers with just the right amount of kick!"

Prob one of the best pieces I've read about C86 and indiepop in general, and how it all sits in the indie/DIY landscape.
“It’s the recurring collision of melody, noise and DIY independence—not perfect stylistic sameness—that makes the label useful.”
modernunrest.com/2026/10/12/c...
The new Spook School single is an absolute rager!
So sick of corporate caring
So sick of empty words
So sick of feeling like
A bomb that's waiting to explode
