Beginning to think that job applications which require you to enter each previous job and qualification separately on a web form rather than by attaching a CV are age discrimination.

One interesting assumption in this article is the idea that the primary aim of drawing boundaries is to ensure political balance, not creating constituencies that represent communities. Another part the US's institutionalised hyper-partisan politics.

As a runner, I've complained about the prices some races charge for event photographs, but shall remain silent on that in the future now I've seen what Ede and Ravenscroft are charging for it at my masters graduation: £40 for a single digital image?

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Heffer putting the boot in so accurately on this is a real "worst person you know made a great point" moment

Simon Heffer in The Daily Telegraph has a zero star review of Liz Truss's Bank Job, but gives it the accolade: "Of all the books I have ever reviewed that purported to offer a serious thesis, this is without question the most deranged". www.telegraph.co.uk/books/non-fi...

Good thread up and down from this, but a reminder for anyone wanting Burnham to go for an early election that it will be another battle in this hybrid war against the global far right.

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

What is true is that this was a conflict—and make no mistake, this was a conflict; this was a protracted battle in a hybrid war, more than anything—that was largely fought by large numbers of people laboriously working to unfuck the nation's informational environment.

Idea for a future Traitors season: do a recruitment in plain sight. After a Traitor is revealed at the round table, to get a replacement, one of the remaining ones has to ask someone "do you want to join me?" or similar and get a "yes" from them.

Trump didn't like Ramaswamy until he saw him sticking up for child rapists and their enablers. He hated the Ivy League until Cornell had a prominent fraternity gang-rape story in the news. He's not just a rapist, not just a serial rapist—he's a rape *enthusiast,* and it's why Republicans love him.

Trump: "What's happened is the press has ganged up on a woman making a horrible statement about her daughter, and I don't why she should be shielded. She said she was a dirty liar ... I say she's fair game."

I'm sure everyone else had this thought a couple of months ago, but imagine telling someone in July 2024 that by the end of 2026 Rishi Sunak would still be an MP and Keir Starmer wouldn't.

eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

Every time I think I've seen all the ways in which the US is so hideously corrupted, I find they've invented another one.

My 4 yr old daughter has an account, opened without our consent. The maximum amount of money any person can donate to my campaign is $1,000. The limit to what a corporation can donate to our daughter's account: none. Every corporation with business before the MN Legislature can now donate stocks...

There's a group of supposed leftists whose entire geopolitical views are based around squaring the circle of "Russia has no agency and therefore must be allowed to do whatever it wants".

Yo what

Members of the British media who can name a lot of governors of US states but approximately zero elected French officials aside from Macron are all confidently explaining exactly what is wrong with France.

Beyond the obsession with Westminster gossip and horse race commentary, it is shocking how little political journalists understand the practicalities of how parties and elections are actually run.

The state of British politics and media is shown by her interviewer being only a fellow politician, not her husband.

Somehow, my dad - who went to live with the woman next door after mum kicked him out when she found out about his affair, then told my lesbian niece he didn't support her "lifestyle choices" - isn't the cringiest 86-year-old I know of.

I’m not a fan of his work, but he’s absolutely right. The calling out in faith that there is someone out there to hear you, and the feeling of solace when we recognize a part of ourselves in such a call, to know someone out there gets it, is *fundamental* to art. Arguably the entire fucking point.

Shocked that there might not be another FIFA Peace Prize.

My thoughts are with rhe FIFA official who'll have to write next year's press release about why they've chosen not to award the Peace Prize again.
