“a narrow club of vastly wealthy plutocrats sits on a ballooning share of the nation’s resources. One per cent of Americans at the apex of the economy are hoarding over 31% of the nation’s total wealth, a cool $55tn in net worth.” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

I’m fascinated that soooo many people can walk around with a deep respiratory illness and not wear masks. After our collective mass casualty event in 2020, these people seem so selfish.

Most PTAs have fun discussions. Tonight, our PTA is discussing what food we should stock in our school's food pantry for families who live in shelters and don't have kitchens. A good portion of our PTA funds goes toward supplementing families' nutritional needs.

BDB had EIGHT YEARS to transform NYC’s streets and public spaces usage. Boy was that a waste of an administration. No offense friends, but this guy dialed it in and boy have we hurt from it.

The former mayor of NY, Bill de Blasio, and I signed the guest book at Melbourne City Hall, where we were guests of the mayor, Nick Reece. With my Wiley book and the Jane Jacobs cap given to me by John @massengale.com after I visited his home in New York not long ago ☺️

This from @ethanmarcotte.com is very good, and hammers on an important point I've been making for years: "personalization" is just something desperate execs push because they have no other ideas, so they translate advertising logic into product features. "Here's more of the same" is a shit pitch.

Gavin Newsom backs measure to kill the billionaire tax and ban future wealth taxes Gov. Gavin Newsom isn't just fighting the billionaire tax. He's backing Prop. 42, which would ban future wealth taxes in California, too.

“It will be up to civil society to remind elected leaders that AGI/ASI is far from a certainty, and that we shouldn’t base policy decisions on the assumption that it is inevitable, or even desirable.” www.techpolicy.press/what-policym...

This is a good illustration of how so much of AI theft isn't indirect (ie, data sucked into a model to train the chatbot) - it's actually **direct** copying, but *enabled* by GenAI. Of course it is: chatbots absolutely suck at creating good, new stuff.

As I have said time and time again, makers of ADS should be as liable as the humans.

In what now amounts to a half-dozen cases, OpenAI agents keep getting caught taking actions that would likely result in criminal charges if performed by humans: arstechnica.visitlink.me/l4Zbk2

Very good live thread.

At this "A.i." hearing at the NYC City Hall and so far it's all goofy talk about Skynet/Terminator "A.i." superintelligence scenarios and nothing about actual massive current harms of regular schmegular trash "A.i."

We asked the Council to revive and fund COPIC, define New York's vision of digital sovereignty, and resource the Office of Algorithmic Accountability, the Office of Data Strategy, and a new Open Source Programs Office, in partnership with CUNY.

Our own research shows the gaps. We asked five AI assistants about the Council's own AI law. Of the three that answered from memory, none knew it. One assistant confidently called the City's Open Data Law a building façade law, and named the previous Council Speaker as the current one.

20 years to get a crosswalk here. Finally happening this Wednesday!! Once it is done, I will host a personal ribbon-cutting ceremony for my son and I. #safestreets #LTN #greenpoint

Some young dude in a BMW tried to bypass ppl in line to exit via the breakdown lane. Unfortunately, my car was already straddling the lane to prevent these a-holes. Normally, they get the hint move to the travel lane. This guy did not & wanted to fight ON THE BQE. #bancars #bmwdrivers

I’m so old — I remember when NYC safe streets advocates had to create a “biking rules” campaign so they could argue against the blue hairs who supported the bike lash. That campaign advocated for vehicular cycling mentality — ride single file, wear a helmet, wear bright colors, etc. etc.
