Reminder: we invented all of this! Money, trade, stocks... All of it we made up! It's up to us what we do with it, and if we want it to work for most people or just the rich ones...

We've really lost the plot of how society should function when we have "crimes without punishment and punishment without crimes"

Micah@rincewind.run

we gotta bring back shame, man society doesn’t work real well without consequences for being an enormous piece of shit in public

As I've mentioned before: Too many Albertans want to blame someone other than themselves, the provincial governments they've elected, and dictators like Putin, for everything that's wrong in the province..."It must be all the brown immigrants, yeah, that must be it" 😡😡

THREAD. A story, in 20 photos and captions, about a uniquely wonderful cat, who has improved my life considerably over the last few years...

Re: Democracy - I just spent 2 hrs looking at the profiles of 46 people who are running for mayor, city council and school trustee. I made my decisions and narrowed it down to 13 choices. So I'm ready to vote this week, will prob take around 30-45 min. So less than 3 hrs in 4 yrs, not bad!

I also try to keep up with local news and heard some radio interviews in the last couple of weeks, so some of the names were not new and I already had an idea for those.

Look, I grew up in a military dictatorship/police state. Many people forget how easy it can be to lose your humanity. We're not as evolved as we'd like to think. You like having rights? Then protect everyone's rights & hold people accountable! VOTE! Democracy and liberties are so incredibly fragile

Police violently drag Hispanic grandmother across rough ground-injuring both arms. Witnesses yell she has a serious heart condition & was just released from hospital. Cops kneel on her chest anyway. "They dragged her like a doll," brother said. Incident occurred in Batesville, Texas

VOTE every darn time... You dont like any of the candidates? VOTE for the least bad. The politicians might break their promises? VOTE, plus: keep informed, go to rallies, volunteer & donate to an org you agree with, etc. Be an active member of keeping everyone's rights...

Wellllll, look who's taking over the closed plant and giving them hope to being rehired: A Canadian company ... FFS 😖 But also, to point out: economies change, industries come and go, jobs come and go. If you don't vote to protect social safety nets for all, who will help when you might need it?

It may sound crazy, but one of the very best things you can do longterm for democracy is to subscribe to your local newspaper.

Before coming to 🇨🇦, we had family members and friends who were killed or tortured fighting for the dream of living in a democracy and having free & fair elections. I was young, but I remember. I will vote in every single election that I'm eligible for. They can pry my ballot from my cold dead hands🗳

Senator Paula Simons 🇨🇦@senatorpaulasimons.bsky.social

I keep meeting smart informed Albertans who tell me they do not intend to vote, because they don’t want to legitimize the process, or because they know the premier is not bound by the results. But what if making us give up on voting is the whole point? My argument to vote - no matter the absurdity.

I wonder: Putin can see that Trump/GOP will start loosing grip on power in Nov. Dems will be back and won't be as easily controlled. Putin won't have a better change to go at Europe for a while...So he might take his changes now...
