In a less imperfect world, Musk and Trump would be forever cast as killers of children, and this would be front-page news for months and the subject of Sunday sermons in every church.
NEW: The death shadow cast by Musk. “When U.S.-supported soup kitchens were forced to close, babies starved quietly, their mothers said, while older siblings died begging for food.” The world’s richest man did this to the world’s poorest children. Don’t ever forget.

Folks at MIT Sloan looked at multiple studies of return to office (RTO) mandates & found they are lose-lose-lose. No reward from Wall Street for “getting tough,” an actual decrease in productivity & revenue, and loss of top talent. youtu.be/4ec_yZCWOCY...

Update (for whom it may concern): in the Web UI you can disable it and apparently it sticks if you come back to the page...just to see that not even 24h later it's enabled again. Downloading archive now, I'm done...
Musk and his crew are such f*ckers…(pardon my french). I opted out to Grok twice, just to come back and see it’s been silently enabled again. Not active there anymore, but still 🤬 If you’re still over there, you might want to check your settings again.

Continuing with the theme of "right tool for the right job," my second re:Invent session this week was on deploying AWS serverless services with Kubernetes APIs! ☸️ www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmJG...

This is somehow not an understatement. I'm so stoked to see this launch! A brand new purpose-built database that truly delivers on what it promises: simple unlimited scalability of NoSQL, global strong consistency (Atomic Clocks > CAP Theorem), but with PostgreSQL compatibility. 🤯
IT'S HERE! Amazon Aurora Distributed SQL (DSQL). It's DynamoDB and Postgres merged into a truly serverless relational database. This is THE announcement of Re:Invent 2024. Everything else is irrelevant.

Although I'm not a Kafka user, I'm very interested in this new capability for Lambda Event Source Mappings - they now have a Provisioned Mode which allows you to set a minimum and maximum number of pollers. Pricing is based on Event Poller Units (EPUs).

Users consistently tell us that managing the flow of state data in #stepfunctions workflows is hard. We've improved over the years, but this is a game-changer. JSONata is powerful & intuitive. Variables simplify by decoupling states. Can't wait to see what you build! aws.amazon.com/blogs/comput...

Great to have @dcrainmaker.com on the Geek Warning pod this week, talking about whatever the hell Strava is up to. It's like a big independent media hug for your ears, listen here or wherever you get your pods: escapecollective.com/geek-warning...

This came my way. Long read, but in essence Strava shutting down open APIs & connectivity with other platforms: 1. Do they think their training platform is best in class? It’s not. 2. The world is going open APIs. Why swim against the tide? 3. No more roastings..! www.dcrainmaker.com/2024/11/stra...
One of the most valuable things about Strava for me is its connections to other apps like TrainerRoad and many others. Strava's new changes aim to kill that. I've been a paying Strava user for years but if they go through with this I will be canceling. www.dcrainmaker.com/2024/11/stra...
