5/ In general, work that shortens feedback loops is the most valuable "metaproject" work that can be done on a project. Doesn't matter what feedback loop: testing, compiling, deploying, getting customer feedback, analyzing data, whatever

A few days back, I wrote about how AI can be useful, and that we ignore or reject it at our peril. Paradoxically, as several people pointed out, some not very politely, longer-term productivity in many (maybe most) shops that use AI code generation has gone down. That's absolutely true. 1/8

Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software. Just fuck you. Fuck you all. I can't remember the last time I was this angry.

Ex-farm worker here. We need to talk about this whole "But a living wage for farm workers would spike the cost of food!" thing. Not true AT ALL. Y'all don't understand how fast experienced farm workers are. The average tomato picker pulls 650lbs per hour. At $20/hr, that's $0.03/lb for labor.

“It took from the invention of the photovoltaic solar cell, in 1954, until 2022 for the world to install a terawatt of solar power; the second terawatt came just two years later, and the third will arrive either later this year or early next.” Moore’s Law eat your heart out. Jesus.

“California is so far using forty per cent less natural gas to generate electricity than it did in 2023, which is the single most hopeful statistic I’ve seen in four decades of writing about the climate crisis.” www.newyorker.com/news/annals-...

Even in oil country, the energy shift is undeniable. In just 6 yrs, Texas (ERCOT) flipped its midday grid from gas-heavy to solar-dominant—with wind & batteries now key players. This isn’t theory. It’s reality. Even in a red state, the sun shines & change wins. Yellow = progress.⚡☀️ #EnergyTransition

I'm putting a tariff on the word "tariff"! Hooked up an arcade dispenser to give me a ticket every time that god-forsaken word shows up on my computer screen. 20 tickets == 1 beer

Something I've not mustered up the courage to talk about because my position in life is obviously quite good is that the core tenet of being a Midwesterner, and one which I continue to ascribe to and has never served me wrong, is simple: Interrogate your wants so hard you reject a solid majority.

I think I've found a way to articulate what bothers me about the trajectory of the modern tech industry (and to some extent... society). We are on this Earth to provide for each other. That's the "mission" of humanity as I see it. This is incompatible with what the tech industry seeks to do.

Ok, this might get me to move to California.

Nearly 200,000 Danes are supporting a comedic petition to buy California from the U.S., in what appeared to be a jab at President Donald Trump’s repeated threats to seize Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark.

I've done an unusual number of mentoring calls this week, and one thing I'd like to remind everyone is, you are enough, and you can't forget how far you've come. You're most likely in the best position you've ever been in to build on top of everything you've done until this point.

You are up to date.
