Well, now’s as good a time as ever for a reintroduction! Welcome to Odyssey’s End: The Rise and Fall of the Odyssey Class. This project aims to document the history of the Odyssey Class, from its Dominion War origins to the fateful events of Frontier Day 2401.

The author is saddened to hear of the Death of Admiral Pavel Chekov (2245-2366). Admiral Chekov was a longstanding supporter of Dr Devenish's academic career, and conducted several interviews with him across his career. He is survived by one son, the United Earth Councillor Anton Chekov.

Because @pundus.art decrees it, I will work on the Regent Class's Remaster, but I had collaborated with @ncc-60205.bsky.social to trace orthos I had rendered so I may co illustrate my own proposals for bringing the Regent to modernity Idk about it being added to the game tho #StarTrekFanart #WIP

I have, once again, commissioned @ncc-60205.bsky.social to put a bit of Star Trek into Star Wars. This time in the form of a Starfleet issue lightsaber! I'm calling it the Type 2-S Phaser (you can probably guess what the S stands for).

It hadn't occurred to me until I saw this post that the Inquiry-class could be a final development version of this top right concept from the TNG Tech Manual. Though I think the resemblance is certainly coincidental, unlike the Insignia-class which was definitely derived from this art.

Starfleet's design bureaus came up with two starship designs; the Insignia Class from the Advanced Starship Design Bureau and the Inquiry Class from San Francisco Skunk Works. Both represented very different approaches to the requirements of the JSC program.

The Inquiry Class would go on to win the JSC program, which would gradually expand to include 15 member world navies. While the Alpha and Beta variants would see significant use by other member worlds, Starfleet would later commission a new "Gamma" variant redesigned for Quantum Slipstream.

The Beta variant was given a ventral impulse engine to assist with takeoff, with the engine possessing a limited thrust-vectoring capability to assist with maneuvering. Landing gear was also embedded into the ship's secondary hull, while the warp nacelles were modified for atmospheric operation.

Nathan Hale's PTOL tests proved to be successful, and though her PTOL features limited her operational flexibility she still met the multirole requirements of the program. Insignia, by contrast, was unable to use any other modules in her PTOL configuration, handicapping her usability.

Insignia was designed to be incredibly modular, with tactical, scientific, transport and PTOL modules able to be swapped out on a per-mission basis. By contrast, Inquiry had dedicated Conventional Space Flight (CSF) and PTOL variants, with a large degree of parts shared between both variants.

While designing the "Alpha" CSF variant of the Inquiry proved to be relatively easy, designing the Beta PTOL variant proved to be a challenge. At Inquiry's 630m length, Starfleet had never designed a PTOL starship of that size before. As such, significant changes had to be made to the base design.

The Betazeds and the Saurians were the first to jump onto the program, and thusly combined with Starfleet to determine the key requirements of the program. The Saurians, whose prior starship doctrine had revolved around PTOL operations, were the ones to mandate the PTOL requirement.

The Joint Strike Cruiser program had been launched in the aftermath of the Dominion War. Following the devastation of several Federation Member Worlds at the hands of the Dominion, calls began for Starfleet to better equip member worlds with a multirole starship to police their own interests.

USS Intrepid is attacked in the Argelian Approaches, 24th June 2267. Klingon deep penetration vessels caused panic throughout the Four Day's War: many of these ships remained trapped in Federation space after the armistice, causing a press sensation and a severe headache for Starfleet.

“Command, this is shuttlecraft Conway, we have visual on the Nathan Hale.” “We copy you Conway. Launch in T-minus 2 minutes.” “That’s gotta be the biggest thing to takeoff from the range. Are they sure it’ll work?” “If the guys at Skunk Works can’t make that thing take off then no one can.”

I was tempted to pirate HP, curiosity and all that. But @jessiegender.bsky.social is right - think of the amount of times HBO commented on GOT leaks and downloads, just as an example. They DO track these things, and even that drives interest. Let this show die. Trans people deserve better.
