The cool thing about illustrating medical books is that I get to learn about how our bodies are put together... and then later all the different ways that can go wrong. Like, the only thing attaching one of your forearm bones to your elbow is just a little hoop of calamari it can pop right out of!

Whenever I use the internet now to look stuff up I'm reminded of the first rules I was taught in web design, and that was the less clicks it takes to get to the important information the better. Everything should be immediately visible and obvious on the front page. [Deep breath]

Second was bandwidth was a big concern and optimization was paramount. Third was don't fckin make popups people will think it's a virus And now the only major websites with designs that don't piss me off are Wikipedia internet archive and ao3. 🔥This🔥is🔥fine🔥

Things that has gotten better in our lifetime: - TVs aren't giant blocks of exploding hazards anymore - electric stoves, no need to live under fear of carbon monoxide poisoning (and it's fckin nuts that gas companies managed to convince people otherwise) - you got party options other than pizza

Saw reviews that forgot to remove the AI prompt... Using AI to write reviews is. Well I knew it's been happening since forever but at this scale it really just makes any ranking on the internet be instantly worthless. Might as well get rid of it altogether at this point.

Another big "emperor has no clothes" moment is the stupid "flying car" thing. Even aside from it being a total hazard, is that we already have compact flying vehicles. They're called helicopters. We don't have vehicles that can fly in the style of a car is because it's physically impossible

If they can make a vehicle that can fly with thrusters alone in the form of a car this thing would be a nightmare to be on the road. It would have to be so light that anything that stresses it would put it at risk of breaking down, and not to mention in the event of a crash you'd be eviscerated

Heard more financial services ads on the radio with the selling point that their financial advisors don't use AI, because AI sucks. Different one than the last one I heard Bruh you know it's dire when even the financial sector acknowledges that being against it is a marketable position

Sooooo just like with photography and sculpture, with aislop flooding the media visual arts is probably going to go back to being a pursuit of the wealthy idler. To make a career of it you would have to be exceptional, unattainable unless you're already rich 🥲

Something about modernization leading to more people having time to partake in the arts instead of labour - that's good! But then being able to commission artists and being able to study the arts ceases to be a class signifier. Then capitalism comes in and bastardizes it like it does with everything

Also it's just that even with the ads, they could just design the UI to not be 60% irrelevant info. The most important info (route map) should be the biggest visual on screen. This is literally the first thing you'd learn in design I don't understand how one messes up this bad 🤷????

I'm mad because the town had a publicly funded really well functioning app that is now gone because every city and town now just uses montransit. It claims it's to standardise everything on one app, but ☝️it installs every town as its own separate app in addition to the main montransit app

For example the point of knot theory isn't to definitively figure out exactly how many there are, it's to explore all logical possibilities and in the process gain understanding of things that could be applicable to other fields, discover patterns we have overlooked. Knowing the answer is useless
