In fact I will say the Earnest and Pious Charismatic Ethnic Minority political figure (AOC, Mamdani, El-Sayed) has been a pretty good bet for the American left so far, whereas the Disaffected Gruff White Guy Showcasing True Masculinity (Fetterman, Platner) has been a worse bet. Just an observation.

Yeah start insinuating he has morning chai rather than coffee, say that he knocks things for 6 rather than hits a home run, allege that he is generally a clean living good boy who loves his mother and prays every Friday (pejorative).

I’m seeing people reacting by pointing out that he’s obviously wrong. I appreciate that, but it’s also a pointless exercise. The problem isn’t that he’s wrong. The problem is that this is normal in American politics — and it’s been normal for a while.

JD Vance: Ryan Zinke complemented my beautiful blue eyes earlier today. I was very excited about that. We're self-confident men in the Trump-Vance administration. The president has been noticing a lot about the physiques of everybody lately

I note that everywhere the right wins now, they push for some mix of wars of aggression, looting and destroying the public realm, impunity for corruption and war crimes, roasting the planet with hydrocarbons, deforestation, destroying public education, ethnic supremacy and McCarthyist crackdowns.

I don't think allowing Jones to keep going this long after the Sandy Hook verdict, or allowing Trump to keep afloat with lawyering, or Zuckerberg/Musk to keep ratfucking global democracy is going to work out for us.

I spent all day writing the thread in my head about how Bolsonaro's win was the culmination of a 20-year project to end Brazilian democracy, with the participation of both domestic elites and foreign actors like the US state department and Meta. This is all true, of course, except he didn't win.

This seems a very obvious point, but the result in Brazil reveals just how clean the line is between Left and Right re Interests - sure, plenty of normal people vote both sides, but the engine of the right is capital and the engine of the left is people.

Les militants fascistes ont attaqués des manifestants rue de la Loge sous les yeux de la police, quand les manifestants ont répliqués, la police a chargé pour les protéger et les miliciens ont frappés les gens à terre ! #Montpellier #24octobre #ViolencesPolicieres @info.gouv.fr

Sometimes a small detail in a painting has as much or even more impact than the complete work itself ~ here’s the totally bereft Mary Magdalene lamenting the death of Christ, in a corner of Giottino di Pietro (aka Giottino)’s Pietà of San Remigio (1365) Uffizi, Florence

I'm writing "zero evil" on all my ballots.

even abstracted into hypothetical maths this doesn't make any sense. picking the lesser evil still makes things more evil, just by a lesser amount

I'm up to 5 2s on this: Dennis McDonough, Bill Clinton, Bourdain, my wife (waiting tables) and her brother (Iraq vet). I wonder if Stacey Peralta ever met him...

kind of microfascinated by the phenomenon of music gear that, if you know to listen for it, you can actually *hear* disseminating through the recording world as people come across it Fuzz boxes are a good example (and it's funny to me that they tear through Nashville session players)
