A hivemind question: Does anyone have any insights on optional EDI monitoring, and whether certain cohorts are more likely to complete them? I'm interested to know whether our 50% completion rate is reflective of the whole, or whether it just reflects the people who fill in the EDI questions?

AA Roadwatch. Did the training, shadowed shifts etc and got given the key (to the whole call centre - we were based in a side office) and then was told I would be doing the 7am Sunday shift. Couldn't get there without a car so had to quit. Had to fight to get paid for what I had done.

30 years after I was discharged from their care, for having the audacity to no longer be a child, I was back as a patient at GOSH today. (They have particular expertise in CT scan for congenital heart defect patients).

To really make me feel old, not only has the building I was treated in been demolished, but the building that was built to replace it has now been knocked down!

On today's evidence, @uhcw-nhs.bsky.social definitely have the better food, although in Barts defence* both my meals were from their "food not ordered" range when a patient hasn't ordered food in the usual way. * Counter argument would be that they probably should have taken my order.

All that said, Barts are very keen to feed me. I have been offered countless late dinners, including one that was going spare. And I got a stash of 12 biscuits with my cup of tea tonight.

I'm all for brevity of the message, but this email reminder from the NHS is missing some fairly crucial details.

Not sure a maths books, complete with relatively complex calculations, works well in audiobook form. But this was an interesting 'read' from Noah Giansiracusa, even if it is very heavily written for a US audience. Feels very much like a book @timharford.ft.com would have an opinion on.

The reason the Amber Valley by-election isn't declaring until tomorrow afternoon is that the counting hall had already been booked for a wedding. You try telling the bride she's not the most important thing happening there today.

Counting is now underway in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election and in three of today's 4 local by-elections (Amber Valley will declare tomorrow afternoon). There is plenty of time to read up on all tonight's contests with Andrew's Previews: andrewspreviews.substack.com/p/previewing...

Was bored with work, wanted to do something rewarding, I volunteer a few hours once a month for a charity. It's amazing. A boring Fess, but it is rewarding. Just do something good for someone, it will make you and more importantly someone else feel better. Do it, please.

(all that said, the programme is quite interesting on Paul's personal experience of drawing on social care following his climbing accident)

If you are offering a financial reward (in this case discounted uni fees) then it is work. You need all the safeguards of being a worker to prevent exploitation/be clear on what qualifies you to receive the reward.

Also, nowhere in this hour long programme did they consider how these "volunteers" would manage to live? Is there an expectation that parents would support them, or would they get a stipend?

Often can't remember what day of the week it is, but when my wife sent me the Express live feed on the police incident at Canary Wharf, I could immediately recall that Apiln had published this story over 12 months ago

Take our word for it, this is the finest local news live blog you will ever read. (And it should take you no longer than 20 seconds)

That can't be safe. It is the marine equivalent of the overloaded car... (Also, how do they them off the boat?)

I'm all for transparency, but a five page letter and 52 page booklet posted to us to tell us the insurer who underwrites the breakdown cover we get as part of our premium bank account seems a little excessive. Nothing changes about the cover, which we don't actually have a need for.

Like the buses, you wait around for ages and then two turn up simultaneously. In this case, conferences. Both over the next two days at opposite ends of London. So, whistlestop visit to HETT at Excel, before going to the NAVSM event at Chelsea FC. See you there, possibly?

Somewhat annoyed I had to leave the Neighbourhood session just as they started discussing co-production. Not exactly a great look for someone who works in this space.

Another early start for day two of #NAVSM conference. At least only one conference today, although downside is that people will have to listen to me speak.

Don't really know much about Olivia Rodriguez, although I really loved her duets with Robert Smith at Glasto. However, this Song Exploder podcast about her song The Cure is really interesting. The obvious connection between these two facts is unintentional.
